As A BST Main In XI, I Stand By The Notion BST Should Not Be A Class.......

It is no secret the team has no clue how to implement pet classes (Or any class perhaps....). However, what they did implement well was trust or companion systems, to a degree.

Imo, Beastmaster should simply be a perk any class can utilize, so long as they complete a requisite quest.

Thus, the Beastmaster perk simply acts as a solo companion any class can call & collect while soloing dungeons, quest, etc. I am not against anyone who wants the full class btw (I play the full class on XI). However, I feel XIV could get by with not releasing a full-on pet class.....that's all.......Not anti-limited job, but don't see the payoff in resources being used on a class/job that cannot participate in the most appealing aspect of FF games, the story.

So much resources go into jobs and the story, but the two are not compatible (In terms of limited jobs). Been go for awhile (Just got back), maybe limited jobs can do MSQ now or planned....idk.....

The current limited job we have is "Blue Mage". So I speak from what we already have as I do not know expectation of "BST".
From my own opinion (and it is very unpopular so please do not take it offensive) I do not find the appeal of "able to do MSQ/every content" on BLU.
The BLU with combined spells and knowledge becomes a one-shot on enemies. Wait on cooldown - next. I can already tell by now that once they implement it the way you ask (And I understand why you ask!) this very problematic non-stop demands will follow:
"Make dungeons sync to the difficulty of limited jobs" .. "Make dungeons harder for limited job"... "Do this to make it better for classes"
People already are on huge lists of demands, and when they meet the demands there is even MORE demands, and soon people find it regretful they even asked.
Just like the 2 minutes burst window, which is a very good example, they listen - but now people want it away.
You mention wasting resources, but I like them to keep doing what they are good at, and not breaking what isn't broken.
Even if your idea sounds appealing, and I like it, I know it will not work with the current system/gameplay.
There is SO much more priorities I wish them to focus on, and before we even know anything about BST, I think already asking for how you'd like to see things is too son.

I mean it shouldn't be a class, but everything in FFXIV is really shallow and done through the infrastructure they have setup already.

They know it's shallow. They make it shallow on purpose. Many of the developers worked on FF11 so they know very well that FF14 is very shallow in comparison and are making it so intentionally. So it's just the philosophical direction of the game - probably in part to make it simple and easy to understand for a casual player to avoid the difficulty of getting into FF11.

The pets will be spells where the beast appears for one moment.

Calling it now. I would be surprised if they even let us keep out the pets for more than the duration of the spell.

No one is offended by saying BLU is unpopular, because it is. And the only reason its unpopular is because the game "Doesn't let you use it" to run roulettes.
(You CAN run them btw, you just need a full party, and this is in place to prevent people from Griefing and making duties take significantly longer than they should. That still happens sometimes tho lmao, did you know you can reach 80 on BLU without learning a single spell other than Water Cannon?)

FFXIV Blue Mage's unpopularity is directly the result of this game's player base drinking lead paint and being allergic to forming their own parties.
But that of course is just the world we live in, in 2025 when no one has friends and everyone is afraid to talk to other people out of fear of offending someone.

I will be incredibly sad if this is the case. IDEALLY they use something like the Chocobo Companion system, but you're probably right and my mood has been preemptively ruined.

I'm not sure what to expect other than disappointment with FFXIV, but I'd wager it'll be a second coming of SMN where there are a few more buttons to press at least.

I would not be surprised if they just went with "charm beast, summon it like the chocobo companion. Then have it fight monsters while you watch from the side and/or you auto attack. All abilities are heals and buffs for the summoned beast".

It would be cool if I could equip beastmaster as a subjob, so I can still run around dressed as I wielding my katana while having a Pugil by my side. Or maybe one of those Ruby Sea walruses. Would also be cool if you could do synergy/combo attacks with your pet.

Considering their solution to some jank with pet behavior was to remove pet behavior, I'll be very surprised if the core of it is anything more involved than the current Ifrit/Titan/Garuda.

The next one will be jester or clown/mime. It will get worse. Stand around loimsa making balloon animals.
