The game will be down for 24 hours straight? Is that true?
Is this a really big patch or something?

Sometimes it is due to infrastructure changes (server hardware).
Also, there is a lot of content in the patch to the point they are splitting it up into sub-patches once per month. However, this has the effect of making it not too much per patch.
They have major patches: 7.0, 7.1, 7.2, 7.3, 7.4, 7.5
And minor patches: 7.11, 7.15, 7.18 etc.
The minor patches would be a lot less likely to have as long of a maintenance but it depends what they are doing on the server end. -
