Playing as NPC's in group content? New idea?

So.. yeah why not?
I know Shadowbringers introduced the idea of leveling companions that are npcs to unlock new gear or outfits for something right? Why not take it a step higher, like how we can modify NPC clothes during the delivery quest after we master the rank, why not do the same for our allies the scions?

To help facilitate this we could be allowed to use said characters to either level up their character levels in group content, or after we've maxed their ranks for a particular expansion use them in dailies or other pf groups.

Being able to control Y'shotla during Shadowbring and beyond content? Yes Please!
Playing as arcanist Alisaie before she became a redmage, that sounds interesting.

I wanna play as Urianger and abuse his Death spell that he uses like once per dungeon.

Maybe it has a really long cooldown and that's why he only uses it once per dungeon.

I think a lot of people want to be able to mix players and NPCs depending on need (common scenario where you have a friend or partner but need to fill the other two spots and don't want to wait ages). I used to imagine something like this happening with Adventurer squadrons. A lot of people have come to the forums and requested it, but I don't think it's on SE's radar or something they are likely to bother with.

Actually playing as them would be odd and break immersion too much tbh.

They're gonna do this but only for wuk lamat because she's the real main character.
