CBU3 needs a shakeup. Their incompetence clearly manifests not just in FF14 but also in FF16.

Are they stretched too thin over multiple projects? Do they just not know how to make substantive gameplay? Or are they beholden by a vision that linearizes every single game mechanic they have, down to even the dungeon and open world designs?

Part of it was probably the Playstation-restricted release. It's telling that they are moving away from that now.

By the time it released on PC, I thought to myself, what's the point in buying it? I already watched it through.

Yep. Lots of hype was gone for the PC because it was a PS exclusive for a while.

But it also would have been a better Netflix or Anime series than a game. It's not a good 'game'. Just my opinion.

You're never getting good gameplay.

That would require the people developing it to see gameplay features as more than just an assembly line, which they don't.

I wanted a real FF game not FFXIV offline

i never buy new games anymore i always wait for a sale and i always watch reviews and gameplay videos to make sure its something i want before i buy it and so far FF16 has not caught my interest in the least which should tell square something considering i bought FF15 which is probably the worst magic system in any FF game (not every FF game can have 10s magic system but i still want something fun)

You should consider punctuation.

16 doesn't exactly start off strong, the combat really isn't fun, constant cutscenes and Clive at the very least doesn't start off interesting at all.

Got a few hours in at launch, haven't been inspired to go back to it.

I would say the older FF titels , especially 7 were very complex for a round based combat system and allowed for a lot of mixing of abilities , now it is rare that you get so much freedom of character building in games.
Some still do it like Path of Exile or Elden Ring, otherwhise it is just "Number go up, bigger number better"
