Probably not happening when steam users like myself have a similar restriction: If steam is ever down you cannot log in.
That's Sony's requirement to use PSN when accessing online content from a PS4 or PS5, not SE's (they'd rather not have to use it if they could - it's the same reason why the Xbox version took ages to be released - SE were stuck on Microsoft's requirement to use XBL). Don't want to use PSN? Don't play on console then - play the standalone PC or Mac version instead, Windows/Mac you just need an internet connection.
It came back online shortly after 1 pm MTN time today. It was annoying and I was wondering the same thing. The big drawback of modern gaming is everything is connected to servers. Even wanting to play some towers in MK1 I couldn't do because everything has to be connected.
