This one has been bugging me for awhile.
I'd say its obvious the token runs off watch size batteries and the only thing that its using the charge for is to display the digits for the code.
But how long should the lifespan of these batteries last? And what happens if they eventually die, can I simply replace the battery and resume use or do I need to get a new token and register that one in its place?
They are supposed to last a few years no problem. I still use the token I got for when they were first released for XI and it was years ago.
When it dies you need to buy a new token, yes.
I have had my security token for that "other MMO" for about 4 years now, haven't had to replace it yet. I have had my SE token for less time but that's because they launched at separate times, and as far as I know they are made by the same company.
Once it dies, you buy a new one.

I bought mine back when they were a new thing when I played XI. I still use the same one. I have my free CE one still packed in the box.
I have mine since launch (sept. 2010) and it still work ^^
in short, when are we going to get an authenticator app lol
