I'm not opposed to new areas, but if it's easier for them, they could just extend the existing ones a little with these new little sections.

From the developers' point of view, this is what a typical FATE is lol. They are powerful from the perspective of a player that still uses Standard and lost all their keybinds/hotbars and obviously SE designs everything with that worst case scenario in mind. :D

Can even use a simple remix of the zone's music.
I wish they would do... literally anything else for FATE music. Even that.

There is a special currency that you can collect in this zone, either by beating FATES, or completing quests that can be daily.
Which is more or less covered by FATEs, beast tribes, custom deliveries and leves. There is precedent for unique currencies for relics when FATE farming though.

There can even be a gathering one, with the catch that stealth doesn't work here, and mining will draw agro if there's enemies nearby. Better clear out the area before you gather.
When I first really got into gathering, the developers very quickly nerfed the concept of needing to sneak around enemies to do it. Just another of the things they removed from the game, except this time there really wasn't a good reason - everyone has a battle class and everyone can get a chocobo to fight for them while they gather. It only served to remove fun from the game by removing the threat.

If you make it easy (coughmandervillecough), then they lose what makes them special.
I think they probably got the message on that by now. Think they are returning it to be more like Shadowbringers.

On top of this, you can also occasionally find Artifacts. These items would go into a collection, and would give a bit of lore of the area.
To a degree, we get this with things like Sightseeing logs or the field notes we collected in Bozja. Whether lore interests enough people I'm not sure, because they discontinued lore FATE chains when the Shadowbringers experiment didn't replicate the success of the Azim Steppe.
