Dawntrail - Severe FPS drops

I have a RTX 3060, and both the CPU and GPU usage stays below 30%. At maximum settings I get a stable 60-70 fps with frequent FPS drops down to the 15-20 range. By frequent, I mean multiple drops within a minute. Even at the minimum graphical settings, the issue still persists. It can't be a rendering issue as I've turned on low-quality LoD models and the issue still persists even while simply standing still and not moving at all for 10 minutes

I'd try the tech support forums. They'll probably ask for your diagnostic data along with whatever background processes you might be running.

Yeah, I would try the tech support... but you're not alone. My game was particularly frame-droppy today for no reason whatsoever... but that doesn't normally happen to me so unless it occurs again I'm just going to chalk mine up to a fluke.

I'm not sure your GPU usage should be below 30%. Sounds like something is going on there.

What's your CPU and in which areas are you getting the frame drops? XIV is very CPU limited, particularly when there's a bunch of characters on screen. Limsa or Hunt trains will tank your FPS, even on a good mid range Ryzen CPU. Stick to 1080p on a 3060 as well. You can also try reducing Character and Object Quantity in System Config>Other Settings.

Game needs to be much more transparent with its graphical options.

and if you have battle effect active the drop is even quicker but ya mostly to much people will cause a frame drop when asmongold played when he was in a city he could lock people out of that city and everyone in would be a frame rate drop

A lot of situations in the game are bottlenecked by a sudden surge of CPU drawcalls.

I have a 3080, and it runs at 100% utilization except in very specific instances, and my cpu is a 13600k.


And those situations are not Limsa aetheryte plaza, it stays at 100% there.

A 3060 should not be seeing 30% utilization.

Yes, the game engine cannot handle higher polygon counts very well. But i don't think, that it is normal, that the CPU- und GPU-utilization stays at 30% the whole time. I suspect, that the TS has either very old drivers. Or the system overheats and the CPU/GPU downclocks to prevent damage. And if you upgrade Geforce drivers then you should close all GPU monitoring tools ala Afterburner/Rivatuner etc.
