i think this game needs an inactive name release system.

what it says on the tin.

i'm not sure what an appropriate amount of inactive time is, but it really sucks when a name you want to use is taken by like... a level 3 gladiator or something, and you just know they'll never login again and that name is forever unusable.

i know other mmo's do this so i feel like it's time ff14 incorporates it too.

I agree with this.
Every new expansion, make it so that every character who hasn't been played on for the entirety of the previous expansion (e.g. Dawntrail, anyone who didn't play during ANY of Endwalker) has their name changed to something like "Placeholder [Random Characters]" and is given a free Name Change, freeing up all the names for everyone who wants to do an overdone joke or just really wanted to name their character something that was already taken.

I don't remember when Maplestory did this last but they do it every few years for characters below a certain level range.
