WOL dawntrail lore. Spoilers

So in shadowbringers they canonized how we just randomly summon in 7 other people to join us in fights.

Did they just do a similar thing with dawntrail with how our individual characters operate?

Both cahciua and sephene are shown to be remotely controlling avatars from another reflection. Nostalgia shows the reverse is possible.

I am remotely controlling my character from my couch. So is our WOL just some random citizen of Eorzea we leap into/body snatch and when we log out they just slump on the floor lifeless or just return to being some nameless faceless background NPC until we login again?

Imagine that lore drop one day when your hanging out with the scions and they have this world ending problem with no possible solution and you can just go, it’s alright I’m really from “The real world” we can fix this.

Would also be an insane way to crossover with other video games, one series specifically…. But that’s a whole other game of spoilers.

Log horizon which is an anime based off a fictional MMO actually explores this concept where the players avatar is the body, while the player themself is the “soul” or “mind” of the character. The anime is about them getting trapped in the game (no it’s not SAO) so their mind and body become one

When the avatar dies in game they lose experience but since the mind and the body are together during the show dying actually leads to them losing memories when they respawn instead because experience is an in game representation of fragments of the soul being lost during the resurrection process

It goes into a lot of detail about the fictional link between the avatar and the player acting as the body and soul

My pet theory is that the Fourth is actually Earth, and that you, the players, are reflections of your own player characters.

Yeah, I sometimes imagine the worst possible way that a story can conclude, too.

I said crappy isekai webnovel; you know, the sort where some dull-as-dirt protagonist gets warped out of the real world into a video game.

Shadowbringers is more like the portal fantasies that were popular up until the early 2000s.
