[7.0 Spoilers] Asian Goals for Alexandria

The way souls and regulators work in Alexandria is definitely unnatural, as pointed out multiple times by NPCs and the fact we haven\\'t seen much like it. However, I\\'m reminded of the souls sacrificed to Zodiark that remained on the moon and did not return to the aetherial sea. I also haven\\'t forgotten the connection to FF9 and how souls were part of a process to bring back Terrans.

My question is, considering this is all most likely originated as an Ascian plot for rejoining, what about this system helps a rejoining? We are not sure what shard Alexandria is from but it does sound like a Calamity failed and Alexandria are the remnants. I\\'ve personally wondered if it\\'s a system that is more of an experiment for seeing if the souls of the Ancients can be put inside a sundered body. Interested in what anyone else has theorized so far.

Oh, Ascian. Phew!

Didn't they only develop the technology after the flood of lightning destroyed most of their world? As such, I would imagine, that regulators were developed independant of Ascian interference (apart from becoming a sort-of necessity to survive in a world destroyed by them). But since the whole process was flawed and would eventually collapse in on itself, the long-lived Ascians probably thought there was no need for them to act and that what little remains of that world would collapse sooner or later anyway, at which point they could proceed and in the meantime, they could work on Bahamut's calamity.

The Ascians would never want to put Ancients in sundered bodies as that's what is actually happening. Now that Zodiark is destroyed, the Ancients have been returned to the aetherial sea and they will be reborn as sundered with all the limitations the Ascians were rejoining the worlds to avoid.

Instead this seems like a development that came from loss and grief. Their world was collapsing and they were trying to save what they could, the only way they could think of as fractured imperfect beings.

While it's all but certain that the Storm Surge was indeed another botched Rejoining (the account we have paints it as similar to the Contramemoria and conflict on the First that precipitated the Floods of Darkness and Light, respectively), Ascian involvement beyond that is uncertain. Nothing about Alexandria really supports their goals, so they probably decided to leave it alone until they were ready to trigger another Lightning elemental Calamity on the Source. (We know they were aware of it, at least, by Emet-Selch's tease about the "golden cities" in Ultima Thule).

Ascians (a.k.a. Ancients) have been possessing sundered bodies since at least the birth of the Garlean Empire (Solus / Emet-Selch); that's not really an issue for them.

My current theory is that the Ascians intended to destroy the Unlost World in a Flood of Lightning (?), but thanks to Milalan arcanima electrope technology advanced beyond what they were expecting, creating Everkeep and all of its marvels that allowed Alexandria to endure in the virtually flooded world a la Norvrandt on the First. Then Robor and Alayla entrusted Krile and the key to the Skydeep Cenote gate to Galuf, and you know the rest.

My real question is where did the Skydeep Cenote gate come from in the first place.

I'm assuming that it was built in the shard and then the "key" was used to fuse one end of it to the Source, creating a stable wormhole.

We're assuming that everything was very directly planned by these hypothetical Ascians, and not just them going 'I guess we'll back this horse', which might be more likely. But regardless, the question of 'why would the Ascians back this specific horse' is still somewhat valid, and I actually think the answer is very easy:

It's to control society.

A people that literally forget who someone is the moment they die? That's a world without martyrs, a world where death ends any movement. (Well, except an anti-regulator movement, but it gets most of the way.) A society that rewards a model and productive citizen with avoiding death? Perfect way to make sure your useful puppets stay in power. Why wouldn't the Ascians love this? It's not like they value the lives of the sundered people.

I don't even necessarily think the Ascians had a hand on this particular wheel; we actually don't have any evidence of their presence, and I'm a bit tired of people naturally assuming they're around all the time. But really, anyone who values being in power over the people they're in power over would love this situation, and we do have a known organization who was in exactly that position in Alexandria.

... which wouldn't be too hard to believe except, as I remember it anyway, the Yok Huy went in search of the Golden City 500 years ago, compelled by dreams of Living Memory; their search led to them contracting some kind of disease that reduced the stature of their entire species, save for the occasional individual that reaches their former height (e.g. Gurfurlur). That would suggest the Skydeep Cenote gate has been around at least that long; otherwise how could they influence the Yok Huy without some physical anchor to the Source?

Time differentials make this unfairly difficult to work out.
