Freezing Issues, though audio remains functional

PC started arbitrarily freezing after Savage patch. Requires hard reboot to get the PC to be responsive again.
Didn't have problems up until this point. Played through all of DT and the current Nraids without any issues.
During a freeze, the BGM in FFXIV will continue playing, but the screen image will be frozen and completely unresponsive.
Did a check of the RAM, a System File Check, and a hard drive check. No issues found.
The game will generally be running just fine, before the screen just stops. No warning symptoms occur beforehand.
I'm not having issues with any other game or application.

What Platform are you using? (Steam/Windows/Mac/PS4 etc.)
Windows 10. Don't have XIV on Steam, however.

At what point does the issue occur?
Arbitrarily. Sometimes shortly after opening the game, sometimes hours into play. It has frozen while I was idling in the character select screen before. It's also frozen while I'm changing system settings from the options on the starting screen. Sometimes the freeze occurs in instanced content, sometimes in Limsa. Sometimes when lots of other characters are around, sometimes when my character is the only one around. No particular content seems to uniquely trigger the freeze.

How often does the issue occur?
Generally several times a day, though sometimes the game can be active for hours before it occurs.

Could you provide the exact error message received?
There is no error message. The screen just freezes. Don't see anything in Windows Event Viewer either.

Are you running any additional programs alongside Final Fantasy XIV?
Generally Discord, plus arbitrary background applications that are on by default.
Incidentally, I'm occasionally in voice chat on Discord when the crash occurs. The voice chat continues to be functional, even though the screen is entirely unresponsive. Discord is typically active on the other of my two screens.

Does the issue occur with one character or multiple characters?
I only have one character.

When the crash happens, is the PC over heating at all?
No. According to Task Manager, my GPU temperature is generally between 44 C and 56 C when it occurs. There's nothing particularly notable that occurs in the Performance tab of my Task Manager at the time of the freezing.

Were any update or changes made to the PC around the time of the crash?
No. However, this issue started after the FFXIV patch that introduced the Savage raids.

Does this issue occur if the game is run in full screen mode? Does it happen in borderless or windowed mode?
I haven't run the game outside of windowed mode. Generally, the game window occupies all of one of my two screens.

All steps taken to resolve the issue:

• Restricting the game to 60 fps. Initially, I did this via in-game settings, but I subsequently also restricted frame rate via NVidia Settings. This didn't resolve the issue.
• Updated my graphics card drivers and Windows just to be safe. Didn't resolve the problem.
• Somebody recommended that I delete the existing XIV config file and reconfigure all settings. This didn't resolve the issue.
• I'm on a desktop PC, but I set the game from Maximum graphics to High for laptop, with low detail models for distant objects and shadows. This likewise didn't resolve the issue.
• Reddit suggested deactivating Microsoft Device Association Root Enumerator, and doing so seemed to fix the issue for most of an afternoon, but logging in after several hours offline and entering Skydeep Cenote via Trusts resulted in another freeze with the same conditions (screen completely unresponsive, but audio active). In this instance, the freeze occured immediately after I adjusted volume via physical keys on my Bluetooth speaker, though I don't know that that was actually the trigger. Note that the volume adjustment occured normally without issue, even though the screen was frozen and unresponsive. Immediately after rebooting, I was able to adjust volume via physical keys on my Bluetooth speaker without inducing a freeze, and with proper screen feedback for the volume adjustment, but this was without FFXIV active.

Many people's computers have been having stuttering issues (sometimes just audio) since the launch of 7.0, and we just keep getting the generic same reply on here from SE mods. We need SE to acknowledge the issue and work on a resolution.

This looks very suspicious. A driver from 2014? When i google for "vbaudio_cable64_win7.sys" then i get many hits with BSOD problems. :/

Please try the following:
- Please try switching between Fullscreen and Borderless Windowed modes to see if it helps with the issue.
- Please try adjusting/lowering the resolution.
- Please try running the game as an administrator.
- Perform a clean boot by opening the task manager and select the 'Start up' Tab. Disable everything.
- Please be sure to disable or remove any overlays (Discord, Steam, NVIDIA etc.) as they may interfere with startup.
- Make sure that the Windows OS is fully updated.
- Reinstall game

- If you have additional peripherals attached to your system, please try disconnecting them until only the necessary components are attached (mouse, keyboard, and monitor) for testing purposes.

When the issue occurs, are you able to close FINAL FANTASY XIV without causing your system to freeze?

Please note that I am incapable of triggering the freezing at will.
In the first place, I don't know the exact trigger, and the problem occurs arbitrarily, with no particular pattern that I'm aware of.
Rather, if I were aware of the exact cause, I wouldn't be so lost.
I can say that disabling Microsoft Device Association Root Enumerator appears to have substantially lowered the frequency at which the freezing occurs, allowing me to play for multiple hours seemingly without issue. I have still experienced the freezing subsequently, per the circumstances described in my first post.

When the issue occurs, are you able to close FINAL FANTASY XIV without causing your system to freeze?

To address your questions:

- Please try switching between Fullscreen and Borderless Windowed modes to see if it helps with the issue.
Doesn't appear to affect anything at present time.

- Please try adjusting/lowering the resolution.
Already reduced resolution substantially, prior to deactivating the Enumerator. Doesn't appear to have affected anything.

- Please try running the game as an administrator.
I've been running the game as administrator since prior to this error cropping up.

- Perform a clean boot by opening the task manager and select the 'Start up' Tab. Disable everything.
Tested this out for an hour. Didn't actually affect anything noticeable.

- Please be sure to disable or remove any overlays (Discord, Steam, NVIDIA etc.) as they may interfere with startup.
I run the game without any overlays directly overlapping with FFXIV, while Discord is full-screened, occupying the opposite screen of my two screens.

- Make sure that the Windows OS is fully updated.
As noted in my first post, I've already done this.

- Reinstall game
At present time, full reinstall seems like a final resort, given that I'm now able to play for multiple hours without issue.

- If you have additional peripherals attached to your system, please try disconnecting them until only the necessary components are attached (mouse, keyboard, and monitor) for testing purposes.
I have a PS5 DualSense Controller and a mouse, both connected via Bluetooth. I don't know how to play the game without these. Disconnecting with everything else and letting the game idle for an hour produces no particular effect.

The screen becomes entirely unresponsive, so closing FFXIV is impossible.

VBAudio is a freeware utility that creates virtual audio I/O channels. I use it for streaming purposes.
My motherboard is ASUS G21CX.

OK, let's hope, that this 2014ish driver is not the reason for the crashes. Then try following:

1. download Hwinfo: https://www.hwinfo.com/download/
2. start it with "Sensors only"
3. Create a log. There are buttons in the bottom of the window.
4. play so for 20 minutes.
5. upload the log somewhere so i can look into it. You can also zip it if it gets too big.
