Some Positive Feedback Regarding Difficulty

I know that there's been a lot of complaining lately about how difficult some of the new content has been, so I thought I would share my thoughts to offset all of that negativity.

I for one am actually really enjoying the increased challenge they're bringing to the game. I started in Shadowbringers and for a long time I considered most of the content to be very easy to the point of even being boring when your party actually knows what they're doing. They did seem to be increasing the difficulty of content later into Endwalker though (which I also liked) and now we're here in Dawntrail with content being a bit more difficult. I mean, there's still flaws, WAR still being able to literally solo a dungeon boss from full health being one of them, but I think they're taking steps in the right direction overall.

I would hope that I'm not in the minority in this and I think maybe at least some people who are happy or indifferent to the changes just don't feel the need to say anything if nothing is wrong.

Naw I think your opinion is as close as it gets to the silent majority, lots of people vocally agree with you too, from what I've been peeking around. c;

Right on the money here. There are tons of people basically playing whack-a-mole with the 'it's too hard' threads and voicing their mal-content for having people attempt to speak for them without their consent.

While I agree, I think it's pretty important to vocalize it. The dev team makes changes to future content based on feedback, so these threads are important feedback to let them know that this is the preferred level of content for most players. I'd way rather 30 threads of "hey guys, you nailed it" than 10 "msq too hard :(" threads

Reading these forums I feel like people think about game difficulty in very weird way, or at least in a very different way then myself.

When I think a game is difficult is when the game presents me with a challenge I am unable to overcome and my progress is blocked until I practise and overcome that challenge. If I am able to always progress and overcome every challenge without practise, it is not difficult.

More or less every single bit of normal duty finder content in XIV is clearable by being a floor tank for the entire fight. This is content designed to be clearable with subpar play and no strategy. Even if you aren't contributing much, you still clear the content and can progress so its not hard. This is a multiplayer game so progressing by the help of othes is a totally valid use of the tools the game gives you to progress.

Most people do not care if you are struggling and dying a lot in duty finder content as long as you at least try. There is a difference between struggling and learning out of inhability, and clearly not contributing out of laziness, and I think most people can tell.

I think what most people consider difficulty is a sliding scale - I don't find the content difficult, but it has a higher necessary skill floor than previous expansions. That's what people are referring to when calling it 'more difficult', but rather than talk about 'necessary skill floor' or whatever, it's easier to talk about it as 'difficulty'. Most people I've seen complaining about it being -too- difficult are playing with trusts where you can't just get a carry, and aren't able/willing to adapt to the new necessary skill floor, so they end up dying at bosses/solo duties and can't progress. I hear you in your other thread that NPCs typically do the mechanic perfectly, but a lot of these folk aren't looking at boss tells, so they probably aren't looking at NPC locations either.

I didnt understand the 'difficult problem' when I saw on youtube some people talking about it, the Duties were the only thing good with this expansion, sadly the story was meh, but we can always hope it will get better, like the Arcadion, cant wait to see what comes next.
