Ahh, memories. I tried to use it too :D A healer "rescued" that situation quickly enough haha. I felt a bit silly afterwards too.
For the record, using the DPS limit break on the tear is not actually required. And usually, DPS will be high enough to kill the tear without it.
The reason people get so fussy about saving the DPS LB3 for it is in case they get a party of people who don't know what they're doing. In that case, there could be tanks and melee dps not absorbing meteors and there could be DPS that can't kill the tear in time due to lack of rotation understanding.
Nevertheless, even in these cases, battle system changes and potency increases have led to where in most cases the DPS is still likely to be there for the tear without DPS LB3.
If you don't save it for the tear, the community may not be happy with it, but if you call their bluff and use it early they will probably kill the tear anyway... you will just get some backlash in chat for it if you do. So there's a secret many of these players don't actually know... that it's not required.
IMO, the mechanics don't need to be dumbed down, but rather they need to introduce these kinds of mechanics earlier on, and in a 'friendlier' or more intuitive way that puts players in a position where they need to think about saving the LB - Be it for DPS, or tanks or healers on a specific part of an encounter.
It's not that it needs to be removed or dumbed down, but they need to work on guiding players through the journey better so that some of these habits are developed earlier on. A lot of veteran players just generally sort of expect it and overestimate what the game teaches you to that point in terms of LB.
Can even be done without the limit break, it just makes it easier. No reason to yell at someone.
If you only used LB on first attempt, should be fine for people to tell you not to use it. Not okay if they yelled at you for that though. Though if you ignored chat and used it on repeated attempt, understandable that people may get upset.
Either way, it went badly and you came here to vent. Just take a deep breath. Next time you get this duty, you know what's going on since you learned it now. Nothing to get upset over.
It's essentially the secondary final boss of ARR. Let people sweat a little.
If anything, having some of the newfangled red warning text suggest how to handle mechanics like the orb/meteor soaking would be good.
I sometimes fantasize about making the synch ilvl about 20 lower. just to see the havoc it would ensue. People dying to repeating orb colours, tanks dying to not mitigating/getting enough heals for Triple, clueless healers and DPS soaking towers and dying, tear DPS check failing due to no LB3...
I also fantasize with including all the Coils to Raids Roulette, including Nael.
I live for the chaos and destruction.
Just gonna point this out. When you're playing group content in an MMO, at the very least looking at the chat is kinda important. There's a lot in this particular MMO that can be done solo, but when you actually are actively doing something with other people, some level of communication is expected. Also, if you don't even look at the chat, how did you know they were yelling at you?
