Keyboard/Mouse not working correctly on other windows when FFXIV is open

I'm having a very strange issue--

When Final Fantasy 14 is open, and I alt-tab out of the game, I can no longer use most of the keys on my keyboard, and the ones that do work do not do the correct functions. For example, pressing the escape key opens the windows menu. I also cannot scroll up or down at all. This is only present when the game is open, and it stops happening when I input CTRL + ALT + DEL, and open task manager, yet resumes the moment I decide to open up the FFXIV window again.

I am not certain whether the issue is with the game or on my end, but I have another friend who said they experienced a similar issue and think that it has something to do with the game taking priority over other windows even when it isn't focused. Has anyone else been having this problem?
