Suggestion: Potsworn

Crafting is incredibly complicated with a large number of items to keep on hand or decide to get rid of... why not have a new type of job a retainer can take as a potsworn (Dawntrail)? They handle logistics of crafting, allowing you to craft with items in their storage bags without having pulled them into yours.

It'd probably be good enough reason for people to have more retainers (and not less) since presumably they'd be unable to go on ventures since they're "anticipating" your character's needs. I'm tired of cluttered bags and I'm just starting my crafting adventure.

Stop hoarding common crafting material and you wont have space issues.

I'm well aware that's an option. That's not what the suggestion intends to handle, it's to make crafting less painful by having access to more materials with an in game lore reason behind it.

Is it an interesting idea? Yes.

But SE has been firm on the subject of inventory. When they're able to add additional inventory space, it will be generic and not specific to certain items. While they did add the Glamour Dresser as restricted storage, it can only be accessed while in an inn room. Would you want to be forced to sit in an inn room every time you wanted an item from your "potsworn" (it would have to be called something since the term and it's lore aren't introduced until Dawntrail)?

As for crafting with materials stored in places other than our character inventory, if SE can figure out how to make that work they might as well just have it draw from our existing retainers rather than create some new storage system.

I wasn't aware they were firm on the subject (I haven't looked it up), but that's good to know. However, I imagine the reason for them being firm on said subject is to avoid the risk of needing less retainers, which helps generate additional income since it's a paid service beyond the first two retainers. So restricting it to a room is more about the need for keeping additional retainers as a selling point.

As to your last point, that's the reason I suggested that it be a 'job' they can take, based on the reasoning of retainers being an important selling point. It would be to limit the other functions they can do, such as go on ventures to retrieve. Selling items would remain, since that would remain a function of potsworn. This would not lessen the need for retainers, but potentially increase them. And it makes sense from a lore perspective, if they're always there waiting for your every need, it would make sense that they can't be doing other things if they're going to do their job effectively.


It would be nice if they could just do that for existing retainers, but I feel taking that approach would just be shut down or not seen as appealing to Squeenix. It doesn't do anything to pad their pockets, just makes gameplay a bit less painful for those who would prefer not to clutter up inventory any time they want to craft something.
