I am fully aware that this thread might start some debate, so first and foremost, I am not against "Tales of an Adventurer" users, this is helpful for those who may have an alt. character to raid with or people who simply want to enjoy the newest content. However, such players pose a lot of conflict within the community that can be easily resolved by implementing mandatory Hall of Novice or extra guidance for them.
Though I must say I do not want to refer to reddit as a source, r/TalesfromDF and just from Novice Network in game combined with me and my friends' personal experiences, there are still some players in level 80+ dungeons not using mitigations, tank stance or not using AOE to take aggro, there's also healers who refuse to do DPS and only spams heals despite the job quests literally teaches you to use your DOTs and DPS skills. I have encountered such who would say " if I want to do DPS, I would've queued as a DPS" when healers should also be able to do damage, even if just throwing in a DOT. There are also players who queue into extreme roulette with no understanding of their jobs, such as spamming pure heals with SGE instead of using the shields. Or players in level 90 content stacking 2 stack markers together.
While I understand this is very hard to enforce, and I would assume this isn't a new problem in the community, I believe that implementing mandatory Hall of Novice before allowing "story skip" players to do duties will help ease the conflicts between players, while maintaining a way for tales of an adventurer to be sold and used. In this way, not only it will ensure the players know preexisting mechanics and the core of their own jobs, the real only downside is players with an alt. may have to trouble themselves a little bit, but if it was an alt. I would assume they'd know the mechanics well enough to get through quickly.
I also think implementing a "trial" or "test" before allowing such players to begin their journey (such as in Bardam's Mettle) will help them understand what to do, implementing enrage mechanics in higher level dungeons such as the ones in Dawntrail will also help heal-spam healers understand they have a role to partake in damage as well.
While I personally don't mind teaching new players how to do mechanics or their job's core fundamentals since I picked up to be a mentor, it is still very frustrating when level 90+ players cannot do ARR level mechanics or the very basis of their jobs, especially when there are hostile players and people who enable them. I understand SQEX wanting to cater to such players to make it enjoyable for them, but for ones who just wants to enjoy the game and being stuck on something that shouldn't be an issue in level 90+ content causes a lot of conflict and frustration, I truly hope SQEX will do something about this other than generalizing and simplifying jobs, because obviously that isn't the issue here.
Which I might as well add, I believe mentor requirements are too easy to obtain, I believe the level 100 role quests should not have a "Very easy" option or an additional "quiz" "trial" for mentors to apply on, because having a "very easy" option defies the point of using a role quest as a requirement for mentorship.

Making Hall of the Novice mandatory is not going to change the skill level of those who are using boosts. Either a player wants to get better, in which case they'll be open to advice from other players, or they don't and nothing is going to change that.
Being a mentor is not limited to helping with combat content. It has to do with a desire to help others with general information about the game, which could be as simple as "where do I find a food vendor for this area". I'm all for reworking the mentor system from the ground up but let's not limit it to players with X skill level who all too frequently are more interested in trying to show off more than they are interested in helping others. -

Hall of the Novice is outdated and gives bad information. They should only do this if they completely overhaul it for how the game actually works today.

Most MMORPG players who will utilize a boost have already played some other MMORPG. Learning Hall of Novice things like "attack incoming mobs", "stay out of the fire", "wait for the tank to grab the mob attention before going full DPS" are already ingrained.
That level of Hall of the Novice is not necessary.
Plus, it doesn't play well to tell every single player they need to waste up to 30 minutes of their time learning basics on a new alt just boosted to level <max>, especially as the gear is so low level. -

No point explaining a mechanic now if the player won't encounter it until they've had another 200 hours game play. Most would have forgotten about it by then (much as players can't remember the information they get in the "Where the Heart Is" quests by the time they're eligible to get a house/apartment).Quote:

The training is nice and all, but it is a near useless feature.
As well, who knows how long in between playing the training and then seeing the real content occurs.
No. they need better learning tools in the game.
And part of that is a community that doesn't gatekeep content. For some reason players want the game difficult, want everyone to learn. But then attack and hate easy mode which could be a great learning tool.
The developers are closed minded and can't think for themselves. And many members of the community are incapable of realizing people learn differently and not everyone is exactly like them. (Oh and the most capable players forget how much they sucked.) -
