Black screen on launch iMac

After downloading the new patch to the expansion, I am able to click play and it launches - but the screen stays black and no errors pop up or anything. I have tried reinstalling, restoring game data, reopening multiple times, and changing the window display settings manually. Nothing has worked. Unfortunately, I am beginning to believe that SE is no longer supporting my version of macOS - this would be very upsetting as it is the only game I really play, meaning in order to play I would have to purchase a newer Mac. Since if I switched to PC I would have to buy the expansions again. Can I get any advice or help on this issue??
