It would be the best solution. Other games have similar systems, like WoW, GW2, ESO where unlocking a transmog/glamour is stored on the account and not on the character.
But those systems don't require a "Physical" item but simply unlocks the look in a.. let's say a digital collection book.
I guess that FFXIV requirement to have a "physical" item is what limits the possibility of a shared glamour system.
And yes, I know the items are put into a dresser. But that the items are mostly still tied/locked to the character who got them and the glams are only there because you put a "physical" item into the dresser.
Where the other games don't require the item in your possession anymore after you unlock the transmog/glamour.
Ofc, I have no idea how the systems works so I'm just talking from how I think it might.
And SE might've not even tried to implement a shared system so maybe I'm completely wrong here.
