Benchmark 1.1 feedback, Midlander facial hair changes

First is the original benchmark, second the 1.1 update.
I really liked the subtle and natural look of the facial hair in the first pass, doesn't the second one seem a bit more pronounced? Like the contrast is sharper and higher in a distracting way. I'm not a fan, but wondering if this is a me-issue or if it's happening to anyone else.

I can live with it but it is disappointing since I was so hyped about the original benchmark approach to the facial hair.
