Job Quests, Trusts, and becoming the Job Mentor

The loss of Job Quests, I feel, has altered the identity and impact that some jobs were building towards. With the job action trailer of 7.0, a lot of jobs are getting strange updates or changes that are not explained (SMN's new summon, SCH's strange transformation, etc). But more importantly, the lack of Job presence (outside of the occasional comment through dialogue...like patch content Reaper) negatively impacts the story.

The Dancer job, for example, would have been a perfect narrative reinforcement over the journey of Endwalker. We could have gotten confirmation of the Totentanz = Despair/Endsinger. We could have met other dancers outside of Troupe Falsiam. Gunbreaker could have had a Garlean parallel while we were in the capital who taught us techniques similar to what Gaius used during his boss fight.

The excuse provided for 'no more Job Quests' is that we, as the Warrior of Light, have exceeded our mentors. If that is true, then we simply could be mentoring the next generation ourselves.

Imagine a Scholar questline where we go to La Noscea and stumble upon an Adventurer who had just found a crystal of their own, and are seeking guidance to learn how to use it.
Or, meeting with Radovan and helping to teach a new recruit the importance of becoming a Gunbreaker.
X'run Tia is struggling with an individual student and is requesting our help with an instruction.

Not only would these quests expand the scope of where these jobs can be found, but it would make them a lot less common or 'lost'.

As a reward for completing these Job Quests, we could have an NPC from the questline (Radovan, R'anaa Mhigo, K'lyhia, X'run Tia, Curious Gorge) as Trust NPCs.

That, in and of itself, is a very fun idea

Role quests should have been extensions of the Grand Company/Eorzean Alliance system.

And job quests like you described would be wonderful.

I miss jobs quest too !

Adding to that : doing old jobs quests now feels particularly strange when you see NPC cast abilities we don’t have anymore. (I’m playing since HW and I’m currently leveling my classes again on this character).
It would be great if SE could rewrite the lore of a few of them (thinking about AST cards for example)

I just want to be picky and note that Ranaa Mihgo is a Moonkeeper name and doesn't have an apostrophe, and that X'rhun has a H in it.

I really don't want SE to take us down the WoW Class Hall Leader route. It was bad there. It would be just as bad here.

The job quests have done their job. They explained the lore behind the jobs and taught the basics. Yes, it would be nice if SE could update the job quests to be more in line with some of the action changes made over the years but that would become a burden to be revisited every expansion. I'll leave it up to the developers on whether they want to do that.

Better not to have further job quests so players can continue their job stories in their own way. Perhaps they've become the mentor as you suggest. Perhaps they've developed new techniques on their own. Perhaps they've run into others they've learned new techniques from.

I like job quests. Also, without going the mentor way, traveling to new places like in Dawntrail could provide a justification for learning new local techniques and integrate them into what the WoL already knows. The entire history of humanity is based on exchanges. for example, one could be a 3 michelin star chef, an accomplished musician or anything and still learn about your trade/art while traveling.

I think they moved to the role quests partially to save time.

While individual job quests would be nice, with the role quests they make 5 quest lines rather than spreading that dev time to what would be 21 quest lines in DT.


I could see it being an optional extra at most.
