Beastmaster a wasted opportunity

Beastmaster could have been FFXIV's ranger a phys range dps with a whip or crossbow with the ability to summon/call animals for damage or buffs or whatever.

Who says that won't be what it is? We don't know anything about the job just yet. I know Beastmasters are in the game already as NPCs, but some aspects might change when it's available to the player.

im glad youre optimistic about it but my point was more in line of how it shouldnt have been the limited job this expansion

The bigger tragedy is that going by FFXIV's history it will likely be a man who does shady stuff but is super honorable, a scholar who studies animals or a brightly colored little cutesy job instead of a man-of-the-wild or feral dr doolittle sort of thing. Which would be much more interesting than just another noble outlaw, scholar or UwU chibi.

Yeah, it certainly wouldn't be a pre-existing popular NPC that features the job itself.

We've already seen beastmasters fighting in Bozja, and thus far they are frontline combatants with one-handed axe and shield. They're not a blank slate.

Heck they missed an even bigger opportunity not making it a tank job. The beast master is tanking while the pets do damage/provide utility

Was new information shared at the recent panel or are people just assuming it's a DPS?

If there's no new information then the Bozjan beastmasters could certainly function as a tank class. They even wear Neo-Ishgardian tank gear.

If blue mage fills in the caster section, we might see BST under tank class then. But still, it's limited job.
