Offer specialized Romance Option DLC with MSQ NPCs

1) Who are you romancing ?

Fans that we are, we've been disappointed time and again that we haven't been able to develop a more serious relationship with our favorite NPC.

A candlelit dinner with Aymeric ? I wanted to offer more... but no.


G'raha: "What would I do... if you weren't here to keep our promise, huh!?"
I thought I had a declaration but... no.


Have you experienced the success of Baldur gate 3's famous romance released in August 2023 ?
Not everyone may be a fan of romance, but for those who are, we're willing to shell out $30 or even $50 for love scenes with your MSQ.

Note : You have a team of scriptwriters, but you can also involve the players :

By having guidelines (respect the character and personality of the NPC, don't go too far, etc.).

The scenario for a potential romance with NPCs must be consistent with the MSQ and excellent, to avoid disappointment. You have to be uncompromising.

Romance possible and unlockable when affinity points with the NPC are high enough.


How to find affinity points ?
When the favorite character is selected in the dungeon reinforcement options.

This will give us a good reason to use reinforcements and to set up the game's adjuration system (personally never used, as I don't see the point). But also, dedicated cinematics, where we have to find the key (path or event) to unlock it.

Have the possibility of making a new game+ by romanticizing another character.

3) Unlocking the marriage with these famous NPCs :

A lot of us don't give a shit about marriage between players... you'd be surprised how many...


4) Going farther with our newly-wed NPCs :

"To have a child or the possibility of adopting one during our travels."
Who hasn't dreamed of having their NPC and children who look like us in their home ? crazy idea? maybe... We can teach them the jobs we have, let them go to school and play games with their parents.

SE actually featured something like that as a joke on the Lodestone during an April Fool's Day many years ago.... and players actually requested it to be actually be added seriously. SE declined.

Besides, many of those NPCs already have romantic partners with other NPCs (Y'shtola's heart belongs to Runar for instance), thus making for awkward interactions...

Before any of that, why tf would you think yugiri is not romance-able?

I don't know, it was just an example. She absolutely can be.

Please do not ship FF14 characters; they are married to Yoshi-P.

I'd like to be able to say that this idea would spoil romances between NPCs.... however, one of my dislikes regarding the MSQ is how very frequently the story side-steps the issue.

I mean, there are several instances where interest between two NPCs has been implied or hinted at, but they never actually outright confirm it - not by dialogue or interaction. They seem very much committed to tropes like 'oblivious to love' (Wedge and Tataru) or 'I will wait for you' (Runar and Y'shtola). I could name a few others, but I'm sure they're familiar.

Heck, they barely even have affectionate interaction between the NPC couples who are married.

I guess there is some argument in saying that they simply don't want to ruin shipping, or the fantasy for the players who headcanon their character being married to, for example, G'raha - but still, considering how avoidant they are on this matter I can't see them making this an option.

I do think it's a viable idea though - works for SWTOR well enough.
