When I'm building an image of a gear set from a dungeon or raid, it may take me days to complete it, especially if the dungeon or raid isn't a popular one. I'd like to be able to log out and still keep the set I'm building in the fitting room, or have the set persist if I have a power outage. This will become more of an issue if you re-implement autologout.
