is the Egg cap supposed to be Hard or Soft?

So i was wondering if the Vibrant egg cap is a hat that is supposed to be Hard like a metal helmet or if its is more like a cloth hat

i cant tell what material it is supposed to be made of, anybody have an idea?

I went through the dialogue from the Hatching Tide event quests when the egg caps were added to the game but there is no mention of what they are made from. Considering the emphasis on eggs throughout the event, there's the possibility they're supposed to be made from eggshell.

Need Armorer to repair, not leatherworker, so, presumably a metal helm.

Suppose it depends on how long they boil it for.
