Sudden System Freeze until restart of whole PC

Hello

i returned after a year break. The game worked fine on this system when a was last playing it in 2022. But now it works fine for a bit of time (like for 20 minutes or something like that) then when i open a menu the whole system starts to work really slow, every input has like 20 seconds delay. Even when the game is shut down this delay stays in windows until i restart the whole system.

That problem only occurs ff14. Every other game i have dont have that problem.

a small research in the internet reveals that i could be the borderless window setting... but i played with that in the past too and i really dislike to play in fullscreen (mainly because of the strange behaviour when you try to tab out of it to look something up in firefox).

can anyone tell me what that is and what i need to change in the options too prevent it please?

Have you tried disabling the Nvidia Overlay? I've had issues with that on other games in the past.

Also have you excluded the FF game directory (including the config stuff in Documents > My Games) from Antivirus?

Based on described behaviour it sounds like something is gradually slowing down the game until it's unusable - usually stuff like overlays, antivirus, or memory issues.

To add, FF14 doesn't really like to be ran from a drive that isn't the OS drive, and can cause it to crash/error in some cases.
Try uninstalling the game and then reinstalling it onto the C drive and see if that helps.
