Frontline Coordinates

if FL is getting any work (big if) can we please swap x,y lat,lon with north(N) east(E) south(S) west(W), i think it would help alot of people who see the chat (if they have it) and instead of the 3-5s of clicking on the flagged location they'd immediately see the general cardinal direction

current set up is (not exact just a template)
X = 0-10 left(0-5) & right (5-10) or west & east
Y = 0-10 up(0-5)& down (5-10) or north & south

if you have someone flag x3,y7 everyone else will not know to head northwest but instead we could have N3,W7 this i think would help alot considering we're not math surgeons

not everyone who does callouts has macros or should have to have them,also the devs have shifted enough of a burden onto the players in regards to pvp as it is. i see no reason why there shouldnt be some responsibility on their end, this isnt just about making things more efficient for the person doing callouts but all involved considering the people who callouts are few and far between

I actually kind of wish they would give us a basic set of callouts like we have in CC, basic directions, fall back, focus x, etc. There is no reason we cant just macro them, but it would provide a bit of consistency.

Not sure I would complicate it more than N, NW, etc. though.

If you want to shotcall you absolutely should use macros. Not only it's faster and easier than clicking the map to ping coordinates or clicking said coordinates in the chatbox, it's also just clearer. Splitting the map in quadrants for coordinates is not a SE issue.

I doubt changing the x,y coordinates into the cardinal directions would aid your average frontline player. Its questionable if most even have their maps open in the first place.
Its easier to just push for a change in culture of calling out directions instead of tossing <pos> into the chat for objectives. This is a people problem, not a tech problem.

this is entirely a SE issue as the current flagging system requires you to click on those in order to know where to go, whereas n,e,s,w would give any recipient a general idea of a heading without the need to click anything, also in regards to directions (not what enemy GC to target & ect ) the amount of macros (depending on how much effort someone wants to put forth) would be entirely reduced as again there would be a general idea

which do you think the "average" FL player would have an easier understanding of X & Y or N,E,S,W? because i doubt this question was considered in the development of the system which would fall into a tech/development issue, it is indeed questionable if they have chats available or know how to open maps but those are topics for another thread on how to help these "average" players.

To me it's a QOL request that's more positive then negative. It could get more people into shot calling, and it could be more easy to understand to the average FL player.

But to me the biggest QOL improvement would be for controller users. I personally discount all coordinate entries because of how tedious it is to access coordinates mid-fight in the chat. I realistically need to hit 5-6 inputs before getting to said coordinate in chat, but if the chat reads a cardinal/intercardinal direction in place of an X or Y, I wouldn't need to tab to the chat for information.

Do I think macros are the better way to go? Sure (I need ~12 macros to convey specific information during an FL match), but do I think this is an improvement over what is currently in place? Absolutely.

I don't see the problem with this. They could even make it a toggle option, so it shows up as whichever you prefer.
