Ok so I'm getting ready to attempt a dbl meld on Obelisk and I realized that I know NOTHING about double melds other than it isn't 100%.
So if someone could leave a link to some info, or if you want to share what you know on here that would be great.
Also, I'm looking for someone I can go to to attempt double melds till I get the meld.
to do the meld yourself u need the augmented materia melder, which requires you to do 10 melds, then go back to the goblin and get it, once you have that its exactly the same as melding a single materia. except with 2 teir4 materia the success rate is like 18%. so if you fail you lose everything. the weapon, both materias and both catalysts. good luck!
If you have 2 of the lowest grade Tier 4 materia, then your sucess rate will be 18% on a NQ item. If your weapon is HQ you get an extra 5%, so 23% chance. If you have higher grades of materia (e.g. +17, +18, +20 instead of +16) then your % chance drops. If you have one high and one low grade materia, you get the best % if you meld the lower one first.
Mike and I seem to have the most success melding on New Moons. We don't have any proof that it makes a difference though and haven't really tested it too much. I just know that I failed many, many times with him on Full Moon and then one night I tried New Moon and made 5 double melds in about 10 attempts. It probably had nothing to do with the moon but we wait for New Moon now every time and seem to have pretty good luck.
The best theory I've heard is to wait until your Name Day to do them...have yet to try it but that one sounds like it could be worth a try. More than likely, none of this stuff matters and you will have the same chances melding on any moon or day. Its probably just another RNG system ><
EDIT: Everything Magnesium said is right, though I have just as many successful 10-15% melds as I do 20-30% lmao.
