I know, why would anyone want to play multiple characters? This isn't even an issue for most people, since there's no real benefit to playing alts in this game. I like the class system here, it's great! You can take all the classes and level them in a single character if you want, and switch on the go. I get that.
But there's lots of reasons why one might want to play alts! Lore reasons, and making different characters with their own constructed backstories and such which goes with the classes they main, is but one of many! Owning different apartments in different housing districts to design wonderful looking places, or even getting savage raid gear which apparently can be done on alts to increase weekly loot, which I'm not sure of since I haven't reached that level of content yet. I'm just a sprout!
The problem with this is that it's hard to justify, not just doing MSQ again, which is fine enough since there's a way to circumnavigate it through story skip, but also because equipment is character bound. Not just dungeon drop equipment that you might have for another class you have on another character, but also outfits you bought on store. That's not getting into mounts and minions! There's so many collectibles you would have to collect for every character that isn't account bound, which would make things so much easier.
The problem with this is that sure, even if we made things account bound, we don't have a shared account-wide inventory space. Honestly, why not make the Inn Armoire into an account bound shared space? I can count in one hand the stuff I have that I can put in there, I don't even know the requirements!
One argument I can potentially see against this is that characters can be used as mules for storage space if this is possible. We already have so much inventory space though, with retainers and chocobo saddlebag. Also, this is less a drawback and more of a boon for FFXIV sub upgrades, isn't it? More characters, pay the more expensive sub, more profit?
Just an idea, throwing it out there!

As a fellow altoholic, I disagree.
There is no lore reason to have an alt since the lore allows us to learn every job on the same character.
The desire to create a new character with a new backstory is great but what's the point of having the character if you're not playing it? If you just want to write stories, that doesn't require a character. If you are playing the character, then you can play it through the content that drops the items you want that character to have for use.
If you're just using the alt to get access to additional housing, then the alt doesn't need anything beyond what's needed for purchase requirements.
If you can't justify going to the effort to get the items on the alt, how do you justify going to the effort to get them on your main?
An alt does not need to have everything you have on your main. Players don't use most of the stuff they collect. What you do plan to use on the alt can probably be easily farmed by the alt in most cases.
The Armoire is primarily for the seasonal event gear, though they're about to add the ability to store the gear purchased from the cash shop there as well. I doubt they will ever turn it into shared account storage.
Lacking shared account storage, how would you even get account bound items to your alt? You cannot friend them to mail the items. They cannot be placed in a Company Chest where someone from another account could access them.
You've also never seen the recurring threads posted in the forums about a lack of inventory space. You may not be experiencing the problem yet but eventually you will. -

If I get an item on one character, whether it be alt or main, I'd like to be able to use it for the other character instead of having to exchange it in grand company special delivery, the unsellable stuff. What about cash shop items? If I bought it for a single character, I believe I should be able to transfer it between characters I own in the account without having to buy the outfit again for a different character.
I can justify going through the effort once, but multiple times each for items that aren't guaranteed to drop, and even if they did, I would have to compete with other players in rolling for? That's not even considering the long queue times of some instances.
The Armoire storing cash shop and seasonal event gear sounds pretty useless, imo. You buy cash shop items for the aesthetic, and seasonal gear is also all appearance, so naturally they would likely be in your glamour chest. Storing it in your armoire means you can't really use it or glamour the appearance.
I would say our inventory space is pretty generous, as long as you clean up raw ingredients and materials, sell the gear drops in marketboard or grand company, and utilize the retainer inventory. You can also use the marketboard listings for additional inventory space by putting extremely high prices and just keeping it there. I used to have inventory space issues but not anymore.
All your responses make note that we don't "need" it. "alt doesn't need anything beyond", "alt does not need to have everything". I agree, I'm merely suggesting something that would improve my player experience, and that of others. As an altoholic, these changes would likely benefit you as well. I don't need these changes. I simply want them, the same way I don't think we need more inventory space but I assume with the mention of the recurring threads, some people sure would want that! -

Do the content solo unsynced (or with Duty Support when available) and then you don't have to compete against other party members. That's incorrect. When you are editing glamour plates, there's a link to the Armoire so you can attach items stored there to a plate. Placing those items in the Armoire where they can be stored saves valuable space in your glamour dresser for the items that can't be placed in the Armoire.Quote:

I have to add that some store mounts are "account wide". So if something is only for one character, then it is intended. I mean that's how se makes money
