Returning player, help please

Hello, I am returning to play after a long hiatus. I was wondering as I was traveling around Ul'dah, where did all my guild mark training books go? I went to a few guilds and I was going to trade in all the books I had before I stopped playing, but they all said I have nothing to trade in...

I'd hate for all that work to be lost. I had every training book in the game.

I still have mine in my key items, but not sure they actually do anything. iirc, all guildmarks that were spent will be refunded to you (to trade for materia or gil) if you speak with one of the NPCs at the front desk.
