Sadly, our current system looks terribly outdated and dull in comparison.
The 2.0 crafting overall is well underway and may be near completion, so it is useless to clamor for changes at this point... but still, wouldn't it be great to craft like this in FFXIV?
That looks a lot funner then watching a ball of energy change colors.

Didn't like this much. Skillful crafting = bad IMO. Very often this will render most craft atempts with underwhelming results.
I'd rather having longer craft procedures (as current ones or similar to battle) but where the success means you got something worth using.
This dragon quest looks very nice...i wanna see the graphics of Wii U version! If it's even to that starting CS of the vid it might be badass! ^^
How do you expect them to add motion controls to 14's crafting XD. At least judging from the images it looks like it's all done through motion control so while it might look fun it's not something they can implement in 14. 14 will have it's own new system ye just gotta be patient and wait for 2.0 to come around but for now enjoy it for what it is and appreciate the fact that it's gotten a lot better than how it started.

Crafting will also see some changes. The team realized that there are many people who want to get involved with crafting, but there were two distinct groups of interest levels. Some just want a simple crafting activity to work on, while others want to get deep into crafting.

To satisfy both crowds, Yoshida’s team will allow players who just want to make something quick and easy to do so with the press of a button as long as they have the required materials. There will be a percent chance of failure, but if you just need an item quickly and don’t want to get too involved with crafting, you’ll have an option there. However, if you’re looking for a more complex crafting experience, you’ll also be able to fine tune the items you craft using a new resource called Crafting Points, which will allow you to create higher quality items. I probed Yoshida for more information on this, but it looks like we’ll have to wait until around August to find out more.
I don't feel that the style of crafting in DQX fits the style of FFXIV
But that being said I am so gonna get DQX, the game looks amazingly fun

It would be nice to make gear off the bones and scales of mobs like in monster hunter i wanted to do that in xi. or like the dragon armor in skyrim.
they did talk about how crafters will be able to make trophies out of the stuff droped by mobs/NMs.So we can display them in our houses like on Fable. probably would be plaques
Aside from crafting, in that video what's interesting in DQX is for solo casual players you can hire other players to join your party as AI, and say before you logout for the night instead of rest bonus you can register at the guild counter to rent out your character, when you come back in game if you were rented out by someone else you get the rental fee + get some exp from it.
