Does anyone here have experience with reusing character names?

Specifically I want to know, when a character is deleted, how soon does that name become available to be used again by another character? Is it instant?
See my other post if you want to see how unhelpful customer service was when I asked, so hoping maybe another player may have experience with it.



If you are interested why I ask, I made an alt and I was surprised I was able to create the name I tried because I just thought it would be taken, but it wasn't. Since I need a bit of a social reset in the game, I was thinking of paying to change my character name and use a fantasia and get a fresh start without starting over, I want to delete that alt I made and use that name for my main. But not worth paying for then finding out I can't do it after the fact.
