Where does the thinking of when a tier unlocks, this one dies, come from?

Since .8 dropped and tier was unlocked i've been constantly in PF for both make BIS of alt jobs and merc jobs to gather some gil along friends

An argument sometimes i saw being brought upon for a reason a tier is unlocked SO LATE as it is .8 before the next tier is that "Well if it's unlocked the tier dries out since people get whatever they want then stop playing", wich okay i can kinda see it but in the practice it just doesn't happen like that

Since the unlock every single day(Talking from Aether here) PF had over 100 parties up between the full tier and ultimate, always people reclearing, progging, merc jobs here, optimization ones, being the star one P8 of course but with 5-7 having it's little group here and there, there hasn't been a single day i wouldn't see the PF flooded with parties.

So yeah, even more when an ultimate is around and you have EVEN MORE people wanting to both unlock it AND get it's gear to do it, raiders bored out of their mind cuz brr content(like it's my case) so they can hop up to prog parties to lend a hand, people buying their loot with gil, just why is it unlocked so late?

Because what you're seeing is the rush to get in at the end.

The whole point of once a week loot drops and a 450/week tomestone cap is to put the people who no-life this game on even footing with the people who have jobs and families and can only play 1-2 hours a day on average. This means that entire spectrum of players is locked into the same gear progression, and PF stays lively.

The last month of an expansion is an exception because everyone who wants to go into 6.4 with 630 gear has to do it NOW. If you don't already have it, or want to gear your alt job for raiding, your options are to grind now or shell out millions of gil for crafted gear once 6.4 drops.

When people say the tier is "dead" when savage gets unlocked they mean that the average player skill drops so drastically that it's better to avoid it altogether.

This has been a thing since Heavensward/Stormblood.

Maybe people misinterpreted that meme completely and came up with some bizarre explanation.

Has nothing to do with people not doing it anymore.

The tier is dead because they added echo to it. The tier is dead because FFlogs quits accepting entries that matter for the tier. Fights die when people are no longer optimizing them. This means people no longer care about doing well in them.
