AST - Tips On Destroying Swords in " A Requiem for Heroes" ?

Apologies if this has been answered already (I did a search here and in the 'Quests' section and nothing came up).

The title says it all - I've come to a dead stop on Zenos' fight in "A Requiem for Heroes." I am at Ilvl 400, but my gear isn't the issue. Up until this point, I've had no problems with Hien's part pf the duty. It's during the Zenos boss fight when I have to destroy the swords that everything goes sideways. It's strictly a timer issue - the Aether Transfer meter fills up too fast for me to destroy them in time. So for all the Astrologians who managed to get past this part, could you please share how you did it? What spells/abilities did you use?

(and the dev who came up with the idea of having to restart from the very beginning when the duty fails should be strapped into an unpadded chair and forced to play "Infestation: Survivor Stories" for eternity. Just saying.) :D

I'm more surprised you would subject yourself to trying to do solo instances as a healer in MSQ, and on AST no less.

Simply put, AST's solo throughput is absolute ass. In phases where you want to have high DPS, you have to hold your burst power specifically for that window. Earthly Star's Stellar Detonation, Divination burst window, casting Malefic uptime through slidecasting/lightspeed/swiftcast, Sleeve Draw -> Lord of Crowns AoE (RNG based). Avoid getting knocked back and getting a damage down debuff.

If you have been doing the above and still fail, the last resort is to pop a potion to increase your Mind stat like people do in raids before going into your burst DPS phase (ideally an infusion to get the most damage out for the longest period of time).

If that still fails, tell Yoshi P to hurry up and release AST rework in 6.4 rather than 7.0 because AST is now unplayable.

No, I have not tried the rotation you listed in your response. I'll give it a try the next time I attempt the duty. But yes, at other points in the game I did notice that the damage output for ASTs just isn't there. Plus, even when my gear is melded to include adds to spell speed, recasting times still seem maddingly slow, especially when the time factor can determine success or failure.

Any reworks before 7.0 would most likely be filed under "N" for "Not Bloody Likely." That being said, if the timer was instead slowed down a tad, it would make that part of the fight a lot less frustrating. But I'll keep trying it from time to time.

Just curious, is this on normal difficulty of the story instance or when re-attempting on easy or very easy mode? Else doing so would be the well .. easy solution.

Chyro, I'm embarrassed to say it's for strictly story progression and occurs on all difficulties. :o

In my case, it's a time management problem - I have x amount of seconds to inflict y amount of damage on z amount of targets. If I just had a little more time, I could get through it.

If it's a time managementt issue then it's exactly as AnotherPerson said, and should be possible done that way- but less painful on any other job- even another healer. I did that on my AST myself.

Make sure every gcd is malefic or dot refresh and you should be fine. You can weave Div, earthly star, draw, and play in the weave window at the end of malefic. Try to keep gcd rolling, and use ogcd’s to heal yourself

I'm trying to remember what I did that fight on. I think SCH or WHM...

AST has the lowest damage, but AnotherPerson's suggestions should work. I haven't ever heard of it being un-clearable, so it should be possible, but it might be pretty tight. I remember having to retry it on SCH or WHM (whichever I did it on) at the time and get my focus and damage CDs for it.

Having actually done it on AST myself , yes it possible, as I said earlier it's likely more easily done on any other healer - if someone wanted to stick to a healer.

I had to do it as whm for sure and most major instances in stormblood solo as whm even though I prefer ast, I get the class is all about a team party healer that is to make the team stronger but in solo instance its very miserable to do things solo as ast with its bad personal dps.
