Question on the Lunch Box

Idk if its just me that doesn't know but can anyone answer me this small question

Why doesn't SE change the model of the toolkit on MCH I mean it seems to me its linked to the weapon and not the class (though yes its for the class) but when you hide your weapon the box hides too, so my 1st grade deductions tells me that its the weapon not the class that's apart of the model.

So to sum it up can they and they just don't bother? or is it they can't?

The Eorzea Database says there are 276 Machinist's arms. Of those, maybe about 50 are duplicate models (some using predictable identifiers like Replica, Augmented, Weathered, Antiquated, Lux, Matte, Anemos, Pyros, Awakened, Animated; and some (the Primal weapons) using unpredictable names). That means they'd have to come up with over 200 aetherotransformer designs if each weapon were to have its own unique aetherotransformer.

However, the aetherotransformer isn't a changing part of the weapon. It is a singular box that Stephanivien built for you. The art of machinistry is new, and it's reasonable to assume that while you might find pistols all over the world, you won't find pistols that come with aetherotransformers. That vast majority of the guns you find are just guns that would use firesand and lead projectiles. You are repurposing them to work with the magic from the aetherotransformer you already have.

We could consider unique aetherotransformers as glamours of the same box if they wanted to use gun-specific designs, but this at least is the reason they all have used the same box since HW.

I don't think the designing a new aetherotransformers would be an issue I mean look at SCH and SMN books though I can see it ezing the work load

But as for lore reasons as you stated couldn't you say that they could improve on the design as time goes on maybe give you a reason to visit Stephanivien more often IDK
I just don't think its one of its kinda is a good answer...but if its the answer that SE gives us to shut up I'll accept my defeat just think its wierd that box hasn't change

It’s not that it’s one of a kind. But it’s not something that most of the world uses or even knows about. It wouldn’t make sense for you to find another aetherotransformer anywhere else in the world conveniently stored in chests with pistols. You’re finding new pistols and just using the same aetherotransformer you started with. All the other aetherotransformers are in the possession of other machinists Stephanivien has recruited.

Not realistically, because while lore-wise it's the same item with every weapon, functionally it is tied to each individual weapon.

"Upgrading" the box would have to be able to change that part on every model, including pre-existing ones that previously showed the un-upgraded version, and I would be surprised if they have the capability to do that (or they probably wouldn't be tied together in the first place).

Maybe if they converted it to a fixed offhand weapon like the spearfishing gig, with a small number of glamour options, but not in its current state.

It's really not that hard to change the appearance of the toolbox. They wouldn't even have to remove it from preexisting weapons. Covering the existing box with a new graphic layer is simple. We already see that with Warrior Berserk changing our eye color to red or Reaper mode adorning the the player in a voidsent costume. I'm actually surprised the box didn't upgrade with each expansion to explain the new tricks and tools that get added. One thing that definitely doesn't make sense to me is why the box is dyeable for certain weapons but not others if we're always using the same one.

Folks keep asking for it at conventions and live letters and we keep getting told no.

Maybe someday they'll actually explain WHY instead of just saying no.

I would take that as an option sometimes a box sometimes a backpack. I mean in the future they could always change this to another simple design that just alternates with each weapon kinda like how SGE has weapons that drape down and other that form a star.
