Thoughts and Doubts About Meracydia (BIG SPOILERS)

[SPOILERS] Only read this after beating EW and Omega raids!

Hi :)

I just have found this image and some things came to mind. So, maybe people that are more into lore could help me clarify some doubts I have (or just speculate together).

By the size of the continent, Meracydia looks huge! Maybe bigger than Othard. A vast place to find new content as a true "new world" for us to explore.

So, until today, what do we know about the area?
(questions are tagged as spoilers)

1 - Midgardsormir fled from... that devasted area we find in EW, Ultima Thule, and reached this continent with his eggs and kids. At some point, Tiamat and Nidhogg got there to have their kids as well... Tiamat described the place like somewhere that she had peace.

Can we imagine/know anything about the dragons that resides there nowadays? Like, the possible relationship they have with the local people? If Midgardsormir chose this place, maybe it's because the people there aren't against dragons? maybe, people workshiping them?

Why they left Meracydia? It was because of the Allagan improsionment that forced some of them out of there? Or there is another reason beside that?

2- what do we know about civilizations on this continent so far? Emet invited us to look for the "actual state of the continent". What could it be? It's because war? I know we will really know this after reaching the place, but maybe we can imagine possibilities :3

3- Allagan empire got some dragons from there. Can you imagine what secrets they left in the area? the technology they used to imprision Bahamut (Dalamud) maybe was developed there? Based on lore of other FF games, which boss/Primal could come from that? xD

As far as your question 1 goes:

Midgardsormr didn’t go to Meracydia. He stayed in Aldenard in periods of long dormancy (likely to explain him not doing jack most of the time) to protect the Silvertear Falls as part of his bargain with Hydaelyn. The vast majority of his descendants stayed in Dravania. It was Tiamat and Bahamut who went to Meracydia alone to make their own dragon family together.

As for what it’s like today, the lore book states that the war with the Allagans left the entire continent a wasteland that is mostly uninhabitable. This is also confirmed by the sight of the continent from space. The few people left there are reclusive, don’t want contact with that outside world, and attack anyone attempting to explore the continent, whether by sea or air. The attitude of the people was doubled-down upon in an interview with the lore creator and lead story designer Banri Oda.

For question 3:

We’re going to the main Allagan research lab in the very next patch inside 6.3 so we might find out more there.

I thought Midgardsormir arrived there first and only after he did the bargain with Haydaelyn he went to Dravania. But, I was mistaken in that :)

And about the wasteland situation of the continent, that is really sad. I ever thought Meracydia being like a big forest full of creatures, water, people and full of life and etc. So, to know that is "wasteland" make the place based on the australian desert and australian continent-based area (not like South America, that I had in mind - all parts of the game are based irl locations and I had a high expectation to see my place represented there someday :3 ).

Anyway, I hope to find an interesting place to visit and have quests with a nice lore :)

Can't wait for one of the overworld areas to be another desert. This game doesn't have enough deserts.

Guess you could say that the zone themes are.... just deserts. :D

I hope that if Meracydia ends up being African and Australian inspired, given the hippo and kangaroo pets respectively, we're gonna see more dark skinned people in Meracydia than light skinned people to make the world a bit more diverse.

I love that Sophia is literally black as the night by the way as are her servants.

Meracydia may be a 'wasteland' but that doesn't mean it would be devoid of content.

I could easily see it being like IX's Outer and Forgotten continents. Mostly ruins but still home to small settlements of the descendants of those that survived the Allagans.
It would be the ideal location for a forgotten tribe of summoners (after all the latest SMN quests involved those who summoned forms of the Meracydian primals), and bonus points for something like the Iifa tree (Sephirot's followers involved of course)
Buried Allagans repositories (I know, yet more Allagans) are a given.

as they've said, we also have general source of aetheric protection which does endure some level of Corruption, even in a overtaken world as the 13th..,

so if it's of aetheric wasteland, we can survive some.(Spicy Aether Ala Fallout..,) or maybe something else.., We know the Garleans had the Black Rose.., it's possible that the Allagans had something similar, if not a precursor..,

but that's speculation at this point..,

It can't be discarded, but we would need a major reason to go there..,
our current forays into the 13th might cause issues over the shards.., so that may be an immediate or later call for Shard Travel(even if not accurate/chose where) but it really does open alot..,

and we don't know where or what they plan to take us soon.
