Custom start for new worlds/DC

Currently, a new world gives you 1 mil gil and a few feathers for new characters and more feathers if you transfer. If you are a new character you have to go all the way from ARR to EW.

What about changing the path characters on new worlds can take (as an option for those interested)? Like starting in ARR but then skipping all the expansions and being ready to take the first 7.0 MSQ quest? (and the option to not have skipped instances in roulettes). Transferred characters could also thin their roulette options.

They did mention a future new starting point/questline that would skip the existing story arc. This could be an intermediate step, especially for the EU data center we are expected to get this summer (and there will be some systems-related quests/unlocks that would have to be un-glued from MSQ progress like for scrip, deliveries, spearfishing, non-ARR job starting quests etc).

Wouldn't your example of a custom start just be a bought level boost?

To a point yes - you get the level and option to skip nearly all of the current MSQ but not actually have it completed in terms of instances and unique rewards from MSQ. The new starting path would also have a similar effect in the future.
