What lore do you ignore?

Is there any in game lore you refuse to acknowledge for your own peace of mind while playing?

This would not be limited to just stuff like how dynamis/aether/echo/blessing/etc works. Could also be events. Or limitations.

Sure your WoL may have every class and crafting skill unlocked to 90 in the game, but is that how you view them 'in character' or do you limit them to a couple jobs?

Are there events you just pretend did not happen?

I have to mentally block out many of the WoL's decisions/actions because of how they conflict with having a brain sometimes, but the biggest one for me is the bloody banquet. Just pretend like we chose to go help Ishgard deal with their dragon problem after the crap Midgardsormr pulled by removing our blessing.

Definetly for me it was EW's silly retcon of the Blessing of Light being what protects against Primal influence/tempering rather than the Echo despite the game constantly stating and proving it was the Echo doing the protecting for a decade. It's a clunky attempt to fix a minor plot hole that appeared in SB (how to explain the 'tempering shielding' ability the WoL used during the 'Return of the Bull'), and only snowballed in ShB (where the Ancients/Ascians were revealed to be tempered by Zodiark and yet still had the Echo).

But saying it was the Blessing as 'Venat's traveller's ward that protects against aetherial influence' rather than the Echo doing the protecting opens up more plot holes where there's been plenty of characters who have the Echo but not the Blessing, still being immune to tempering (such as back in 1.0, where the Blessing didn't even exist), so the whole thing just ends up collapsing under it's inconsistancies. Hence it's something I've just ignored throughout EW and continue to ignore.

Also the whole Etheirys/Hydaelyn thing - where even Yoshi said "use what you feel comfortable with, as they're both correct." Yeah, tell that to the Sharlayans then (for me it's not "ignore that lore" but more it just depends on the context/situation as to what name to use, rather than simply adopting the Ancient name as the modern name as a retcon - for me I use 'Etheirys' when referring to the Unsundered world, and 'Hydaelyn' when referring to the modern sundered world.).

Basically how other players don't fit into my character's story even though she spends most of the time with them. Everytime the WoL goes into a dungeon/trial/raid she is met with other WoL going through the exact same thing she is going through except they look completely different and wear street clothes or something goofy. I guess we're entering some kind of multiverse and meeting our variants to fight, but the WoL never mentions it to the other scions.

Enkidoh, we've had this conversation before, MULTIPLE TIMES, AND RECENTLY AS OF ANOTHER THREAD. The Blessing is an extra protection on top of the Echo, stop acting like it's the only thing. I'm starting to believe you're foolish enough to believe that a 10% damage mitigation overrides a 20% damage mitigation.


Onto the actual topic, the fact that bangaa (who are reptilian looking) are mammals. I REFUSE to accept this.

They have never outright stated that in the game – certainly not to the point of admonishing people over "getting it wrong" that the blessing has replaced the Echo.

They have been incredibly vague about what the Echo actually does since they started this course alteration into crediting the blessing with being the thing that provides protection against aetherial corruption, especially since Venat made no mention of it when she talked about her "traveller's charm".

They've shown time and time again over the course of the game that people with the echo have resisted being tempered, more than enough visual evidence through the storyline to prove that the echo provides protection from tempering. In Stormblood we were seeing echo users including Arenvald actively block tempering. Remember the instance with Lakshmi, where Arenvald and our characters block the tempering energy to protect the people with the echo shield? Even Fordola, who has the Resonance, which is a copy of the echo, was able to do the same thing. There is absolutely 0 things to clarify, the echo and blessing both protect from it.

Yes, I know all of those things, which is exactly why it's problematic that Endwalker spun around and said that the reason we were protected from primals was Venat's spell, as if there had never been an explanation for it before.

In order for me to be able to tolerate the actions of my character I have to pretend that the whole of Endwalker simply did not happen.

Nothing really. Sure there are parts of the lore I very much disagree with/wish where different, we all have, but if I decided to ignore or mentally twist any piece of lore I had issues with then I would never be able to enjoy a fictional world whole haha! For better or worse I like to experience these worlds the way writers and creatives crafted them as, though people are free to enjoy media however they want. Thats just a personal preference of mine and lore/story quality is always subjective.

I think the only thing that I may come close to ‘ignoring’ is how much time has passed since ARR and Endwalker. I seem to remember someone on the creative team saying its only been like a year or so, which just seems far to little a time scape (Especially if one considers the notion that we do every quest and story during the expansion/time its released) so until it officially said in-game (Which I do not think has happened yet?) then I like to believe its been a long time between adventures.

Ardbert didn't permanently merge with our soul - he lend us his aid to defeat Hades as symbolized by the Ax of Light, but when we returned to the Source his soul stayed on the First and joined back into its Lifestream to be reunited by his teammates. Maybe he left some aether merged, but my WoL isn't any denser than any other living native person on the Source minus G'raha. Anyways, that soul density has no bearing on actual physical or magical prowess or lifespan, as evidenced by everyone on the First -or historical figures like Shattoto- not being at all shorter-lived or less power than people in the Eighth Astral Era. My personal feelings and idea of what sort of hero I want the WoL to be resonated with Zero's disdain for and avoidance of consuming other voidsent by diluting that sense of self, and why the idea of rejoinign with other Azem shards is the most abhorrent plot speculation. There's a point where the Power Fantasy of a Chosen One tips into distasteful for me, and the more our WoL is equated to Azem and this idea of an immortal overpowered being with reality warping powers and unchecked government position, the worse it gets.

Any cutscene or dialogue choice that pretended that my feelings towards Emet-Selch ever grew beyond disdainful loathing and painful tolerance - I wasn't going to overlook that he was directly responsible for at least three disgusting empires, his hypocrisy needed to have been called out way more often than it was, and his dreadful, unentertaining personality was excruciating to be around, nor was Hythodaeus much better. And as Amaurot held less appeal than Eulmore under Vauthry, especially visually, his goal was always going to be as much an emotional non-starter as it was in feasible practicality. The worst thing that Hydaelyn did was ensuring that his soul will be eventually reborn on the same Shard as my WoL- ideally they could be left behind in Ultima Thule to get reborn on some non-Etheirys star like Zenos. Emet and Hyth were Azem's friends, but my WoL wants them to stay permanently far away

The penultimate cutscene to Euphrosene when my WoL is standing next to Snoegeim watching Deryk, we both leaned over and agreed with each other that Deryk is probably Oschon. Bets involving drinks at the Seventh Heaven are involved.
