Definetly for me it was EW's silly retcon of the Blessing of Light being what protects against Primal influence/tempering rather than the Echo despite the game constantly stating and proving it was the Echo doing the protecting for a decade. It's a clunky attempt to fix a minor plot hole that appeared in SB (how to explain the 'tempering shielding' ability the WoL used during the 'Return of the Bull'), and only snowballed in ShB (where the Ancients/Ascians were revealed to be tempered by Zodiark and yet still had the Echo).
But saying it was the Blessing as 'Venat's traveller's ward that protects against aetherial influence' rather than the Echo doing the protecting opens up more plot holes where there's been plenty of characters who have the Echo but not the Blessing, still being immune to tempering (such as back in 1.0, where the Blessing didn't even exist), so the whole thing just ends up collapsing under it's inconsistancies. Hence it's something I've just ignored throughout EW and continue to ignore.
