Returning player: lots of questions about point allotment, oh my

My friend and I just returned to the game after a looong time away and of course with the jobs in place and the physical levels gone, everything's different!

I'm afraid we've already made a bunch of mistakes with point allotment through misunderstanding the current game. :(

I've read some other threads about this: I know you can get Keeper's Hymns to reallocate but I've seen conflicting information about whether you get them when you unlock a job or complete a job's AF. Which is it? Also, is there any plan to make them more readily available so folks can tinker with their stats without potentially permanently screwing it up due to a finite amount of these items -- just 7!

Finally, when allocating points do people generally go all in to their primary two (i.e. Int/Str for a pugilist) or what's the common wisdom...?

Being gone long a long time from the game myself, I'm unsure about the specifics concerning stat allocation for most class/jobs, but usually a 23/22 spread in the primary stats is a safe bet.

However, regarding the Keeper's Hymns, I know for certain that these can be obtained via unlocking the jobs themselves.

Generally, you go with just your two primary stats, with ONE (possibly two) exceptions. The first exception is Thaumaturge/Black Mage needs points in Intelligence (I'm not sure why they didn't make that a primary stat...), possibly go INT/MND on BLM. Another possible exception is Gladiator/Paladin, where you may want to allocate points to vitality... but then again, they really need to do all they can to keep hate, so taking points away from their damage and healing may not really be a good thing.
