2.0 Question

I didn't read the entire draft yet and don't know every detail, but I'd like to know if we're able to change our names with the upcoming of 2.0.
It'd seem a bit odd (To me anyway), being able to remake our character but not change the name.

There's been no definite yes/no yet iirc, but I could be wrong!

Seeing as we'll be able to all re-roll and change race / sex I feel I can say with 100% accuracy you'll be able to change your name as well.

I wish they made second names an optional feature... But, that's just a hope.

One of the recent interviews they said they were looking into the possibility of it but unsure if they're gonna.

Edit: Does anyone know if we can change which city we're from?

Well technically it is possible (as in : the game does support it and the feature exists on the current version). Now it's more a policy decision rather than anything technical. If SE wants to allow us changing name, they can. But as usual, rules would be needed to avoid players griefing (create a mule with the name of someone you don't like) or avoid players who have been using a name since 1.x to lose it against someone who just joined, that wouldn't be really fair ><

As for City, no idea >< not even sure if that is supported?

But say for example, two people starting playing 1.xx at around the same time, one with the desired name and one who has struck some bad luck that the first person already having the same first and second name.
This probably was not intended by any rights.

If person 1 becomes inactive for a long time, but still has the character with the name person 2 wants, is it justified that person 2 doesn't get the name they've wanted?

Judging by "Lulu" in the e3 screenshots, who appears to be a black mage, it looks like single names will be possible.

I think the rules during World Merge were giving the priority first to active players and then to oldest players.

So if someone have your name but is inactive, you will have priority. But if two players want the same name and are active, then whoever picked it first have priority. That had to be done since current XIV have a lot of dormant players.
