Tips/Advice for someone looking to make Gil from Gath/Craft/Desyn?

FFXIV is the first game, that has a gather/crafter system that I like. I'm wondering if anyone would share some tips or advice, for someone who wants to get into it, and make a profit.

There is no universal 'money-making machine' in crafting. You just need to be prudent, find well-profitable niches in your world's market and always be on lookout for opportunities. Although as rule of thumb, the less gil you spend on your materials, the more your profit, obviously, so if you plan to go full omnicrafter/gatherer its better to just get your stuff yourself when possible.

My main advice would be to not focus on the items that sell for the highste price, but also calculate how long it takes to make them - or in other words: While endgame gear might (in theory) sell for a little more than leveling gear, leveling gear is often easier to produce (faster crafting, better available materials). So it might be worth going for that over endgame gear.

Any advice anybody posts here will be bad advice by the time you read it, unless it's very general.

If you are the only person doing it, you can make good money.

Once it's on the forum, possibly hundreds of people are doing it, and it'll end up costing money instead.

Some folks post advice here, on purpose, that gets you to buy things they placed at extortion prices so they make money and you lose money.

In short, learn WHY each thing works, not what each trick is.

You gotta get meta.

But there are some good general ideas. They announced that some new housing wards will be going live at some point in the patch 6.3 cycle(my personal guess would be on or around jan 24th, meaning the first lotto cycle will be over and people will be decorating around jan 30th... but that is just a guess). Several hundred new people getting houses means lots of opportunities to sell housing items. Sure, some of those people will also be crafters and want to make most of their own stuff. But a lot of them will just be people willing to spend for the stuff they need/want for their new place. Another good general tip is not to let any of your currencies cap. If your GC seals/poetics/allied seals/etc are getting close to cap, spend them on something. Each currency(other then MGP) has some way to benefit you. Be it extra ventures to keep your retainers rolling, aetheryte tickets for free teleports, things you can sell, etc.

Check the price history on anything you're looking to gather or craft in bulk. How stable is the price? And more importantly, how often does it sell? If it's selling a dozen times per day and the price is fairly stable, you can make a small income doing this. Don't plan on making big bucks, but it means you can reliably turn 15 minutes of crafting or gathering into some coin. Items that sell only a few times per week will not sell reliably and you will likely lose a lot of money to undercutting - not an advisable market to invest into.

In the event you're posting something that has no competition at the moment (common on Dynamis, especially for goods that aren't at or near level 90 stuff), consult the price history to determine how much you should sell it for. No one's going to pay 150k for some gauntlets, even if there's no competition. They'll just buy from a vendor instead.

Not sure what crafter you have leveled, but Levequests is a guaranteed weeky source of 420k~ish

Using culinarian as an example, they have a Old Sharlyan levequest that gives around 5k gil for 3 Carrot Nibbles, if they are HQ the reward is 10k

You get 6 Leve allowances daily, so thats 60k a day

It might seem like a small ammount, but you can store your allowances over the week, and dump them all at the weekend or when you are waiting in queue for 420k weekly give or take.

I am suggesting this method because its guaranteed, fixed money. And no marketboard involved if you can gather the resources for the Levequest delivery

While the effectiveness of the methods she showcases can vary from server to server, she should give you a basic understanding on what to sell and why those items sell. From there, you can figure what sells well in your server
