Will artbook / soundtrack minions ever be accountwide again?

I've seen a past thread about this issue from three years ago, just around Stormblood's artbook where they first introduced this limitation, and the official statement was that they were going to continue looking into it.

It's been two more expansions and many more artbooks / soundtracks since then and it seems there still isn't any change in sight.

This is extremely frustrating. I just don't understand why you would make a unique item like this limited to one character. On top of that, even if I were to buy another artbook or soundtrack, I wouldn't be able to redeem the code again.

As someone who plays two characters ( one on NA and one on EU ) it sucks that I paid money for something, but can't have it on all characters no matter what I do, including spending even more money for it.

Even more frustrating that they said it's because their account wide items are limited, yet continue to release new account wide mounts etc.

It's possible, but unlikely. They talked about it on a live letter once. There's an issue with space on the database for account bound items that limits how many they can have and makes adding additional ones harder.

God I really wish. Pathetic they aren't, frankly.

Then almost immediately SE launched the panda and two Carbuncle mounts, all account wide. In the last 5 years despite these "limits" they've still managed to keep consistently selling account wide items on the mogstation, at a premium, regardless of whether the purchaser actually wants them account wide or not.

Unfortunately I don't see that the minions/orchestrion rolls from the artbooks/soundtracks going back to account wide. Whether there is a technical limit or not, it's just really not in SE's interest to "fix" it. Right now someone literally has to buy their product twice which is just a bonus to them, although replying to the OP:

Is that actually correct? I thought you could still apply a new code to your account, you'd just be forced to pick a different character.

They need to be changed to account-wide. Makes no sense that they are not. If you buy real life stuff you should get it on every character to enjoy.

Unfortunately, that's what people have reported in other threads / reddit posts. I haven't tried it out myself yet out of fear of wasting my money, but I recall that this was something brought up before. It would give you a message that the item was already registered to the account. Of course, I might very well be wrong but I haven't seen a recent post in the last 1-2 years about this.

Either way though, even if this is indeed possible, it's ridiculous to me that you need to buy a physical collectors item multiple times just for another item code. An account wide item code should just be part of the package when you purchase something like this.

Mogshop > physical items codes

Sorry you had to find out like this. :/
Though if it's any consolation all those mogstation purchases are going towards bettering XIV... right?

What gets me about this is that the physical items tend to be more expensive than the account-wide MogStation items. You'd think they'd want to prioritize the physical items for account-wide codes since people will generally only need or want to buy one of them.

Physical items have overhead to deal with. Mogstation items can just be poof'ed into existence with a click of a button! (assuming the payment goes through.)
