Honestly, if they're gonna bin that idea, why can't they just merge Materia data center with Dynamis? Might as well right? Who cares about the ping when we want to prioritise on doing content we want. Or a better idea is just letting us be part of another logical data center, but keep our ping. The data center is doomed if they're choosing to bin cross-region data center travel. It's dead. We lost 30% of endgame players in OCE (since these players are very active and want to do content at any time of the day), and those 30% were the smart ones, and the 70% of us are the bloody idiots who had faith in Yoshi P and his team to help fix our problem.
Yeah, I said it. We are idiots for thinking that the issues of Materia data center were going to be addressed by now. Not solved! But has at least been acknowledged. I was really hoping they could tell us that they know what's been going on and they are currently trying to think of a way to help Materia players have a better experience on trying to do content outside the MSQ.
But nothing has been said about it, and they are choosing to be cowards about it by staying silent, because they know very well how bad it looks on OCE when they openly admit that the data center is a complete failure, which means that the players who read about it are likely never going to transfer over. But I reckon it will be better for the existing players who have stayed in Materia to know that the situation will be handled eventually. They need to be told that the data center is not neglected, in order for them to cling onto it and hope for an eventual fix.
For me, I'm getting out of Materia soon. I've lost my patience.

Materia is an investment in community building in the OCE region, Gard. It will take a long time to build and foster into something great. If you don't have the patience for that, you don't have to stay.
Yes, there are definitely ways SE can help us along (DC travel isn't one of them! In it's current form there's no way for Materia to interact with other data centres, and even if we could we'd have to forfeit our good ping in order to do it), but it's also down to us to run community events and encourage people to join in. Unfortunately, the middle of the expac isn't really the best time to run them. Even the big populated DCs have lower engagement right now, it happens every expac. We're in a little lull, and with some big games out it's a good time to step back and play other things.
But again, if that's not what you want in your game experience then transferring to a higher pop DC is the way to go. No one's forcing you to stay on Materia, especially if you're not happy. -

Like for me, I helped establish the peak times for Frontlines in OCE. Another person established the hunt trains and the Eureka fate trains for the newbies. Then you have the venue owners who want to do a cool thing for the RP community, but most of them have closed because they were just dissatisfied from the turnout. And people are already losing their motivations to keep things running when we feel like we're dealt an unwinnable hand, because we know that the most active players, have already transferred back back. There's only so much the players can do for their data center, but what's causing the problem to persist is just us losing the population. Yeah we're in a content lull and people are taking breaks, but the people who are still active and want to do whatever content they want are already back to their previous data center. Building a new server has never been easy, in any game.
Even if you do choose to leave us for greener fields, it still helps the ANZ community if you can kindly consider to retain an alt foothold with us, try to run a few queues a week at any level, and most of all stay positive.
Just finding a few hours a week will keep helping the community.
Do what's right for you though, above all! That's important. -

Building a new server may not be easy, but Dynamis has had it so much easier because people just DC travel if they can't queue for content or have high market board prices. All content is benefiting from people traveling to Dynamis as well. People looking for statics don't have to restrict themselves to Dynamis. All of that benefits the growth of Dynamis.
All advantages that Materia does not have because SE didn't do cross-region travel. -

Double post but I wanted to add: I do wish they would consolidate the "Worlds" forums here into datacentres, rather than have it seperate for each server. It made sense when we were all independent of each other but it doesn't anymore.
The server forums are dead with everyone piling into General Discussion instead for visibility and there's no real space for "EU" or "NA" or "OCE" to give feedback on things that relate to their datacentre.
