Switching from mouse to gamepad

How do I switch from using a mouse to using a gamepad? I've looked in configuration but cannot find any options. I know at the beginning of the game it asks which you will be using, and I had selected mouse. Now, I want to try and use a gamepad but can't figure out how to make it switch or if it's possible.

I really hope that I don't have to start over and select gamepad at the beginning.

Just plug in your gamepad, open up the FFXIV config, then config your gamepad to the settings you want. Save it and run FFXIV.

I've plugged in my controller, go into configuration but there is no option for gamepad. Only an option for keyboard.

Nevermind, I misunderstood. I was trying to do it from the config menu in game. Thanks.

Yeah, gotta do it outside of the game.
