Multiple Jobs from a Single Class (confirmed by Yoshi-P)?

‎1UP: Okay, let's move onto the job system. Because each class can only become one job at the moment, people can't really see a big picture for the job system. Also, in the most recent update, you added class-only gear, and that only confused the matter more. People are wondering, "So am I supposed to use a job, or am I supposed to use a class?" How can we expect to see the job system to change in the future?

NY (yoshi-p):
First thing is that, currently, it's one class and it turns into one job. But the way that we designed the system is that this won't always be the case. It just happens to currently be the case.

For example - and this does not mean that this is going to happen - but for example, right now the gladiator will change his job to a Paladin. But maybe in the future a gladiator will also be able to change to Dark Knight. Again, this is a maybe... Not saying anything about Dark Knights. But maybe. Just so the players know that, just because there's only one job per class right now doesn't mean this won't change. The way we've designed the system is to allow for multiple jobs to come off of a single class.


I for one, love this.

Here's my biggest concern.... If I already have a lvl 50 Gladiator, adding Dark Knight as a second job class stemming from Gladiator means, I also have a lvl 50 Dark Knight. Unlike FFXI, where you unlock advanced jobs and have to level them from scratch, I'll either have a level capped DK or a very close to level cap (assuming they increase the cap by 5 or 10).

Wasn't one of the best parts of FFXI leveling up the new class, learning the new class (dunes), etc? I just seems, for those of us that have multiple 50s (I have 5), I no longer have many options, if any, if leveling up a JOB.

I would prefer if you can unlock DK, but it starts at lvl 30, and you have to level it up to 50 as you do the AF quests...

Conjurer --> Summoner
Thau --> Red Mage
Gladiator --> Dark Knight
Lancer --> Samurai
Pug --> Thief
Archer --> Ranger
Marauder --> Berserker (Duel Wielding 1h axes)

I think jobs should ignore the aspect of xp and just be obtained through different methods.

The current method we have now is a series of quest starting at 30.

Later on there could be shards of a crystal which you collect through various dungeon to repair a job crystal to unlock said class and then perhaps open world events may grant those with the job crystal the chance to increase their influence with it and unlock new abilities.

For a quick example let's say they give us the Geomancer Class.

The shards for this crystal are found within dungeon that hold heavy influence from the primals. upon finding the 4-6 shards it melds itself into the Geomancer Job Crystal and you obtain one ability.

Let's say in open world we end up with Titan, levi, Ifrit and Garuda. Garuda is slain the Free company obtains the right to summon her and upon summoning her the weather changes and an event opens up for those wielding the geomancer job crystal. While Garuda's influence surrounds itself over Eorzea you have to find the point where it's strongest and interact with the area. Upon interacting with the strongest influence of Garuda's summoning on Eorzea you obtain a new Geomancer ability and you continue this til you have all 5 abilities. Rather then have the final ability be based on a final quest it would just be based on the element you get last. So you could find the weather influence in any order but upon collecting the last one the crystal would resonate stronger and you would then unlock the AF quest for Geomancer.

Basically there are a lot of ways jobs can go, I just think xp shouldn't be one of them, leave it for the classes which later evolve themselves into jobs.

As much as it sucks, I think it's important to remember that people who first pick this game up, are going to have to unlock each independent job attached to their level 30 class, complete each job specific quest in order to obtain all gear/abilities, and then continue to level to cap. That's actually a lot of work. Getting back to my original point, is that it kind of sucks because in the current community's situation everyone is level 50 already, so you've done half the work, and that includes the first wave of jobs(pld, war, whm, etc..)

Another point to take in, is that new players are going to feel the need to acquire abilities for cross classing, and that again requires a lot of time. Thank god the devs are considerate and this game has a semi faster exp leveling curve, considering we have to level a ton of classes/jobs.

why would a archer become a ranger isnt it the same thing c.C?

Not if it can use guns too? hah, that or if it just has abilities that further multiply it's dps capabilities. Kinda like pugilist and monk.

I think this might be one of the better reason to not level jobs seperately. With the chance (and likelyhood) that there will be additional classes added too, thats plenty of leveling for a new player. Especially when they are going to be compete for spots in instances with folks who will likely have nearly everything to 50.

I kinda like the crystal idea posted earlier in the thread. The only issue being if the Next set of jobs are done in such a way, it will likely mean they are obtainable at lvl 50 only. Which for those new players denies them the ability to obtain the job at lvl 30 like the current ones.

Not a huge problem relatively. But i'd have been a bit sad if i had to wait even longer to be a DRG. I was in a big rush as it was!

Agreed. My take on this requires a bit of a redesign of GLA to accomodate PLD and DRK, but I think it is also something to consider for the other classes.

Something read between the lines is that like it or not, for multiple jobs to stem from each class, there are going to have to be some major changes. We just have to wait and see how that plays out.

I'm leaning toward the pug > PUP theory myself. Both use H2H, and pup was a popular job in FFXI once it got properly fixed, especially considering it wasn't a "classic" one like mnk or war.

On top of that, the pugilists guild has a mammet in front of it, which could totally lead to a quest on how to control the mammet and fight along side it or something. :D

I would hate to be stuck to some crappy staff or lame weapon for pup... i want my hand to hand combat (and automaton!) back!

Long as we get Scythes (one's that you know, we can fight with) or Greatswords I don't care where Drk comes from.
