How does transferring from a current plot to a new plot work?

I currently own a small cottage but will be trying to upgrade whenever the possibility arises. If I should be so fortunately to be successful at this (one helluva big IF given the scarcity of plots these days), is anyone out there familiar with the process of transferring? Do you have to relinquish your current plot before accepting the new one? If so, what happens to all of the furnishings that currently exist on the old plot?

Do not relinquish. It'll give you the option to move to your new plot, which will refund you 15% of the value of your old plot and transfer your house to the new one (fixtures will change size if you're moving to a bigger or small plot). All of your furniture will be put into storage, including stuff that normally can't be stored or removed once placed. You must have enough space in storage, however, which I believe is 40 outdoor and 400 indoor, no matter what plot size you're moving to.

Well, Mao has successfully relocated to a medium. Mao is wondering if Mao needs to purchase builder's license again or is Mao now set?

You should be set. The Estate Hall is included in the relocation.

All furnishings placed in your small should have been moved into the Storeroom with the exception of the Miniature Aetheryte and Chocobo Stable if you had them. Those will be automatically be placed in the yard/garden.

Your exterior fixtures should be automatically placed on the new house, with the walls and roof upgraded from small to medium automatically.

Your interior fixtures should also be automatically placed inside the house in their respective ground floor and basement positions with a default set of fixtures placed on the upper floor you now have.

Thanks for the info, Jojoya. Mao greatly appreciates this. Puts Mao's mind at ease. Mao also has new house skin installed too. Add in Wysteria trees and Mao is SO happy. Goblets is WONDERFUL place to be!
