Alchemist: Where to begin?

Alchemist is more supplier to the other DoH classes than reliant on them. For crafting Grimoires and Codexes it will have need of leather, metals and logs/lumber at times but for just about everything else it relies mainly on gathering for materials.

If you're really just interested in ALC, I wouldn't worry about the other crafting classes and just pick up the gathering classes.

Where to start? At the Alchemist's Guild, of course. ;) The Guild Supplier will sell almost everything you need for the initial 15-20 levels though eventually you'll need to get your materials either from gathering or off the marketboard.

What to craft? Try to stick to the reagents that are crafting materials while leveling. Those will be fairly consistent gil makers until you're ready to start crafting the end game potions. Lower level potions tend to flood the marketboard because of other sources.

Try to keep up with the class quests as each one will reward close to a full level of XP at its correct level. Leves are also a good source of experience until you run out of leve allowances - I would save them until you reach level 50. Ishgard Restoration is also a good way to go if you're leveling the gathering classes in the Diadem.
