While I honestly do like the compromise the Armor of Light set went with, I was wondering if it would be possible to update some of the older armor sets (including the Armor of Light set) to have the capes they normally would come with since now some of the newer sets have capes.
I presume it's not actually possible without having to remake the model entirelly from scratch which, SE simply will not do, unless they reuse it for a new piece. Unfortunately older armour models lacked capes so as to avoid clipping issues with weapons, as well as difficulties in having a cape's physics and animations work properly (one of the few times 'PS3 limitations' really was a thing), which the upgrade to PS4 and DX 11 has allowed improvements in gear design, so they've very tentatively but progressively having new gear with capes.
Having said that, clipping issues are still very much a problem - the PLD AF5 Reverence set's cape clips badly with larger swords and shields (like the original relic Curtana and Holy Shield), - so this is still something SE are probably mindful of.

I wish they'd try again with real cape physics now that hardware isn't the issue it was. In the ARR beta release, Odin's armor had a big billowing cape. It was cool.
