First War of the Magi

I can't help but feel like we are in Final Fantasy 6's story line.

I just started playing it a week ago and Magitek, Empire, espers power being drained to power the magitek. The game talks about trying to prevent a second war. With how XIV story is playing out, could it be possible we are heading for the first War of the Magi?

Thoughts/Comments?

IIRC, theres no elezen, lala, miqote, or roegadyn in VI

It actually reminded me more of a sub storyline in WoTG from XI with hints of FFTT and V.
