Unpopular opinion on island sanctuarys.

It is dead end content with no real meaning or progression or lasting impacts on the game.

You go around clicking 1 node at a time for hours on end, Even upgrading your Tools to a higher tier doesn't help gathering.

You fill out your supply sheet for 2 weeks and then visit it once per day to harvest crops, tend to animals and send followers out on missions (Lmao garrisons anyone).

Gameplay wise, some people will enjoy this, i won't deny that. Personally, i find this incredibly boring when there is already a better Gathering/Crafting system in the game tied to actual progression.

Will i continue doing island sanctuary? yes, but only checking it once per day until i get bored of doing even that.

Daily 'Chores' are something i try to escape from in MMO's, The only good thing is i can drop it at any point and not have it affect my characters progression.

Just think of all the time and resources that went into making this.

Instead of instanced housing.

I don’t think they wanted to add something that will remove the focus from the rest of the game unfortunately.
I was a bit disappointed, I expected to get lost in there for a little or at least not have to wait days until I get some blue cowries.
Maybe in the future they will make the island more engaging. Gathering items one by one is really not the most fun thing you can expect.

I'll admit that is not for me either, especially because it's not housing per se, which was the only possibility that could interest me.

The other reason I would do the contect is the rewards... Currently, I don't really like the hairstyles and the glamours/mount doesn't really fit my character's aesthetic (Roleplayer). The materia is easier to obtain somewhere else.

However, they hinted that Islands will receive future updates, which may bring stuff that I'm actually into. For that reason, I'll get myself to do it eventually when I'm bored with everything else, especially because it doesn't seem to be the kind of content that they would add QoL "catch-up" mechanics in the future when it gets more stuff or another zone.

Basically how i feel, the hairstyles ill unlock over time, no rush for them.

I don't think it's particularly unpopular after the honeymoon period is over. Pretty much my sentiments. The gameplay loop is frightfully basic. Right now I'm at the point where things are automated to the point where I could check things out maybe twice a week. Then it just becomes a waiting game until you have all the stuff you want. Which isn't exactly compelling gameplay.

Even Ishgard Restoration manages to still be relevant after ShB because it's good for leveling, has unique items you can put on the marketboard, has a neat lotto ticket gimmick for more rare stuff, and you can grind it out as much as you'd like.

Hell I don't even dig it as a spot to RP in since everyone's island is going to be near the exact same and those annoying mammets are everywhere. But who knows. I have hopes they'll keep adding more stuff to it. I hope they do, at least. Seems like a big project to invest in just to leave it as-is.

Went in with no expectations and somehow I'm still let down...

Oh, I'm still needing to finish Moogle tribe quests...

That's another thing that I'm usually not into, but I do little by little ever since ShB. Like, I may not like anything from the Arkasodara tribe... not the minion or the mount, nor I have anything to level at that range to benefit from the experience... But once in a while I do them because I'm sure I'll need that maxed out for the eventual 6.5 quest that will require all EW Tribes maxed out.

I remember in SB really wanting the /gratuity emote, but then I had to retroactively max out every Tribe and it was a PAIN.

To me IS doesn't feel like the "sanctuary" it's supposed to be unfortunately. Feels like everything I do on there is a chore.

Also very little customization to be done. That little hub zone at the entrance is about everything that matters and the cave behind is basically just a diadem portal. The mammets everywhere also make me feel like I'm a stranger on my own island, wish they would go. Just pretend my WoL built all that on their own. Seriously, there are more mammets on the island than players even if you capped out on the amount that can visit you at once.

Looks designed as something to do while waiting for a party to fill or someone to come back from being away.

But something was put in it for people who like to collect mounts to motivate more people to do it.
